ELECTRICITY MARKET DEVELOPEMENT
ELECTRICITY MARKET DEVELOPMENT
As previously reported in recent editions we have been following developments in the electricity market relevant to the renewable energy industry.
We believe this will be the first of many articles as we progress with a vision of producing a magazine specifically for this market. In the meantime we would like to start with some recent comments emanating from various sources which we have received recently and may be of interest.
We would also like to hear from our readership as we progress so please do not hesitate to give us your feedback. Below are some of the main categories which we will cover in more detail in future editions – we are sure there will be more so please advise in due course…

ELECTRIC VEHICLES
Mark Stewart, Partner and Head of Infrastructure & Renewable Energy at Johnston Carmichael commented: “The advent of the electric vehicle (EV) revolution is upon us. Tesla’s recent launches of electric models is bringing affordable electric vehicles to the mass market and many other car manufacturers plan to fully electrify their vehicles in the next few years including BMW and Jaguar.
“This, teamed with governmental policy to significantly reduce carbon emissions and move away from the use of fossil fuels means the inevitable and rapid ascent of the EV is set to continue.”
INFRASTRUCTURE – ELECTRICITY GRIDS

Arthur D. Little, at Global Management Consultancy has recently written a report on Agility in Managing Electricity Grids – The Case for Batteries
“The rise in renewable energy has created unprecedented challenges for the planning and operation of an
electricity grid that was built on the assumption of power being provided predominantly by large, centralised generation sources and consumed as soon as it is produced.
“As a means of addressing these challenges, battery-storage technologies are therefore attracting great interest and the report looks at their future role and the drivers and barriers to their greater adoption in major markets.”
100% RENEWABLE ENERGY FUTURE A report has been published revealing how renewable energy could entirely power 139 of the world’s industrialised countries by 2050.
Louis Shaffer, Distributed Energy Segment Leader EMEA, Eaton states: “This latest research clearly outlines the many benefits of shifting to renewables – more jobs, less pollution and a more sustainable way of living. The report also clearly indicates the key barriers still standing in the way of converting to 100% clean, renewable energy. The
