ONLINE INSPECTION SYSTEM SAVES TIME AND MONEY ON DATA TURNAROUND

An award-winning inspection system achieving fast data turnaround on turbines worldwide has been used on more than 2000 turbine inspections so far

3sun Group’s bespoke Certification Management System (CMS), that uses hand-held tablets to capture asset and equipment inspection, means accurate certification data appears on clients’ systems within 48 hours, up to two weeks quicker on average than the old system.

IN ACTION

Clients say the CMS, already used on more than 40 windfarms in the UK and worldwide, is saving precious time and costs recording all site equipment that needs statutory inspection. The Kinetic system is constantly evolving with improvements and upgrades as technology and inspection methods move on, offering potential for even greater efficiency. Copies of current and historical inspection certificates can be accessed at the click of a button, providing clients with a valuable tool for internal and external auditing.

INCREASED ACCURACY

Adaptable and flexible, the CMS technology has also significantly improved site safety and compliance in the industry, streamlining a more accurate means of managing the statutory inspection process than the previous written system, which had potential for error and incomplete information.

• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

• Lifting equipment (LOLER 1998) • Work equipment (PUWER 1998) • Pressure equipment (PSSR 2000) • Fire equipment • Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) • The system is also expanding to include observation reports, hose inspection and blade repair.

SYSTEM DETAIL

Each item of equipment to be certified is given a unique identification number by the system, along with a description, safe working load, test certificate number and a record of previous inspections. Data is either downloaded remotely on site or when the hand-held tablet is docked back at base, making huge time savings in onshore administration.

The easy-to-use CMS has multiple

search functions for easy navigation to find an individual item quickly. The system comes with an email alert system to flag up necessary inspections and equipment certifications close to their expiry dates.

3sun Group, based in Great Yarmouth, has invested more than £150,000 so far in its CMS, which can record a wide range of equipment.

SCOPE Its scope includes, but is not limited to… MEETING INDUSTRY DEMANDS

3sun Group, which has a global reputation for resolving some of the key energy engineering challenges facing the energy sector, developed the system to meet industry demands for quicker data turnaround and provide a full turnkey solution for its clients.

The CMS’ game-changing potential

was recognised by the industry nationally when it was awarded the Breakthrough Award at the RenewableUk Awards two years ago, which recognises companies that have delivered a transformational technology, project or approach to the renewables industry and achievements that transform how the industry thinks.

HOLISTIC APPROACH

3sun Group Chief Executive Graham Hacon said the company had taken a “holistic approach” to statutory inspection compliance for a more effective way to record equipment. In an industry of fast-developing technology, an on-line system was the obvious solution, for speed and accuracy. Graham explained: “In some instances, backlogs in the old written data certification management system would reach weeks, so the 48-hour turnaround of our CMS has made a huge impact on efficiency in administration and also in accuracy and therefore safety. “Average time savings are one to two weeks. The success of our system has inspired others across the industry to re-evaluate how inspection can be managed much more efficiently.”
