TRAINING

ESSENTIAL TRAINING

Petans in Norwich has been an essential part of the offshore industry since 1971 and today trains around 6000 people a year in subjects from survival to safety representatives, helicopter landing officer to HUETs and fire teams to fast rescue craft

Whilst still delivering offshore OPITO, Maritime MCA and City & Guilds accredited courses, the developing wind market has been part of their training offering since about 2001. As the East Anglian wind market has developed and matures Petans has built their own tower and training facility to allow technicians to undertake the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) suite of training.

FACILITIES

Training over six days the technicians demonstrate their competence in Safe Work at Heights, Marine boat transfer, First Aid, Firefighting and Rescues from Height. To allow this Petans have developed facilities they already had to the satisfaction of GWO assessors. Building works in the survival tank replicate boat transfers and facilitate ground fire training so essential for remote operations. Where required new facilities have been added like the 15m tower and

dedicated classroom for GWO Basic and refresher course clients, benefitting many companies who represent all areas of the wind industry.

MULTI DISCIPLINE TRAINING

It is against this background that the training company are being asked to provide multi discipline training for people who cross industry borders, including the need for people to travel by helicopter to work from offshore accommodation vessels, and even boat crew STCW courses.

HEALTH & SAFETY FOCUS

Petans do not provide technical training – this is quite rightly the province of the OEMs, instead they simply provide high quality accredited training in Health & Safety. All staff are qualified in teaching and assessment techniques and you can be assured

This investment in quality training at a time when many courses can turn out less than competent individuals is a prime example of professionalising the offshore wind power industry.

CHARITY STATUS

As a registered Charity Petans can provide a non repayable grant to some people which reduces the cost to the individual or their employer for this essential training.
