SPONSORS OF HEIGHT & CONFINED SPACES WORK
EXPERIENCE INNOVATION & DEDICATION
Transferring technicians from boats to turbines is an inherently dangerous procedure, requiring the worker to climb from the front of the boat on to a vertical ladder.
Maintenance often takes place when environmental conditions are not ideal and it is common for transfers to take place in waves of over 2m. the safest way to protect the worker is to attach to a ladder- mounted fall arrest block during transition.
50 YEARS EXPERIENCE
Being permanently installed close to the tideline, and with many working parts, this calls for a highly engineered system built to withstand the punishing sea environment. Learning from over 50 years of block manufacture and putting safety and innovation at the forefront of every product designed, has made Capital Safety the global leader in supplying blocks for this environment.
INGRESS PROTECTION (IP) By sealing their blocks with an Ingress protection (Ip) rating of 68, the block can withstand complete and continuous submersion in water without any moisture entering the moving parts. It is inevitable that the cable will carry water back into the device as it retracts, however, this will still not affect the mechanism as it is fully sealed from the cable housing. Any damage to the cable and the Fastline system can be quickly replaced in the field using a minimum of tools.
Some operators are using non-sealed blocks on the basis that they can absorb the cost of replacing them after only a few years’ service. Open to the environment the functionality of these kinds of blocks cannot be assured, the risk exposure in this kind of policy is greatly increased. Furthermore when an unsealed block seizes, as it is prone to do, the turbine can no longer be safely accessed, outages become prolonged and revenue is lost.
