METMASTS


AN ALTERNATIVE SOLUTION


Ocean Resource has two meteorological mast designs marketed under its Xanthus portfolio of products.


GRAVITY BUOYANT CONCRETE BASES – SEAMET AND OCEANMET Both SeaMet and OceanMet are based upon Ocean Resource’s tested gravity buoyant concrete bases that enable both designs to be easily relocated and re-used many times over their twenty five year design lives.


SEAMET


SeaMet is a self-installing 100m high offshore meteorological mast and monitoring platform for water depths up to 60m that utilises a tubular hull containing a telescopic lattice structure fixed to a self floating concrete and steel cellular gravity base by means of a universal joint.


OCEANMET


OceanMet is a self installing 100m high meteorological mast and monitoring platform for water depths between 40m and 200m that utilises a watertight tubular support column containing a telescopic lattice mast fixed to a floating support structure, which consists of four independent steel watertight tanks linked to the central mast column through a truss system.


GRAVITY BUOYANT SYSTEM (GBS) OceanMet is tethered to a rectangular concrete and steel cellular GBS foundation comprising several separate ballast compartments. The foundation is designed to sit on the sea bed and to resist the lateral forces imposed upon it by its buoy, tower and tethers.


The mast support structure is designed to remain below the water under positive


tether tension (tension Leg / tLp structure) with only the support column protruding above the surface, thus minimising the fatigue impact of breaking waves.


BUILT AND ASSEMBLED ONSHORE SeaMet and OceanMet are both fully built and assembled onshore, and then using only standard ocean tugs, both structures are easily deployed and commissioned offshore in single trips lasting a matter of a few hours, thus also mitigating the uncertainties of weather. Landing platforms and access decks are provided on both SeaMet and OceanMet to allow boarding from a boat.


LIDAR ARRAYS


For Lidar arrays, a much lighter version of SeaMet is available without the mast structure, and OceanMet (Lidar) buoys are suitable for depths greater than 30m.


OceanMet (Lidar) utilises the same principles as its larger sibling, but consist of a single bulbous hull.


RELOCATION ADVANTAGES SeaMet and OceanMet are both readily recovered and re-deployed with minimal legacy impact, meaning that instead of using fixed masts that soon become redundant; a single SeaMet or OceanMet can be relocated several times at a fraction of the cost of a new build and with no legacy impact.
