JEKYLL ISLAND / SAVANNAH View buildings from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries on a tour of Jekyll Island’s historic district by tram car; drive to nearby St. Simons Island, and continue to Savannah where your hotel is in the heart of the downtown historic district. Tonight, discover Savannah’s fine Madeira traditions at the Davenport House Museum, and dine in relaxing southern style at 45 Bistro in Savannah’s oldest hotel, The Marshall House. Meals BLD


3. HISTORIC SITES IN SAVANNAH Pay a visit to the Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum, which chronicles the era of booming trade over the Atlantic. Next, go

4. FORT PULASKI AND HILTON HEAD Visit Fort Pulaski National Monument, site of a key Civil War battle. Although the fort was thought to be invincible, the Union’s new artillery breached a wall, leading to an unexpected Confederate surrender. Stay overnight on Hilton Head Island at a seaside resort. This afternoon, journey through the roots of Gullah culture, from Africa to the Carolina coast, with master storyteller Aunt Pearlie Sue; her warmth, exuberance and humour will be long remembered. 5. BEAUFORT AND CHARLESTON You may want to enjoy an early morning walk on Hilton Head’s beaches before heading to historic Beaufort on the Intra-Coastal Waterway to explore the city’s National Historic Landmark District. Continue on to Charleston, where a private harbour cruise introduces the city’s colourful maritime history.
