EASTERN USA & EASTERN CANADA

Mountains en route to your overnight stay at the Mountain View Grand Resort & Spa, a classic 19th-century New England resort. The electricity here is totally “green” and generated by an on-site wind turbine. Meals BD

7. SIMPLE GIFTS FROM THE SHAKERS & MORE Begin the day with a wildlife talk, then head out through scenic New Hampshire landscapes; your destination is a Shaker village in Canterbury. Few settlements of the religious sect remain in America today, but as chronicled by Ken Burns in his 1984 film, The Shakers: Hands to Work, Hearts to God, Shaker ideals of simplicity, industriousness, and equality of the sexes once drew the attention of Transcendentalists, feminists and thousands of ordinary folk in search of a better life. At the village you’ll experience their simple “gifts” firsthand, including their architecture, furniture, music, and a wealth of inventions that have had a profound influence on American culture. Have lunch, then wind your way over to Maine and an overnight stay at the Cliff House Resort & Spa in Cape Neddick, with spectacular ocean views. Join us this evening for a farewell dinner – a traditional New England lobster bake. Meals BLD

8. JOURNEY HOME Tour ends: Boston. Travel from coastal Maine this morning directly to Logan International Airport in Boston. Fly home anytime. Guests who have booked longer stays will be dropped off at The Westin Copley Place hotel. You should allow at least 2 hours for flight check-in at the airport; flights should not be booked before 2:00 PM. Meals B
