CAJUN COUNTRY DELIGHTS Head out along the Mississippi River to Cajun Country for an Acadian-style bal de maison (house party) complete with a home-style porch lunch, music and entertaining storytelling. Stepping back in time, get a taste of 19th-century Creole life in the bayous at a re-created Acadian village; interpreters share insights about life here in the early days and local dancers introduce the Cajun two-step. 5. LIFE IN THE BAYOUS Learn Cajun history at the Jean Lafitte Acadian Cultural Centre, then visit Shadows-on-the-Teche, a pre-Civil War plantation, and Jefferson Island, where a 19th-century stage actor named Joseph Jefferson built his winter mansion – surrounded by a delectable show of camellias, azaleas and crepe myrtles. Dinner tonight is Cajun style in Breaux Bridge, the “Crawfish Capital of the World,” with lively music and dancing at a favourite spot. Meals BLD
6. ATCHAFALAYAN RICHES Get a close up look at Cajun culture and daily life on a guided boat tour in the Atchafalaya Basin. Bayous and backwater lakes of this Mississippi River tributary make up one of the largest forested wetlands in the United States.
