4. TO PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND BY FERRY From Nova Scotia, a picturesque ferry crossing brings you to Wood Islands, the gateway community to Prince Edward Island. After lunch at a waterfront inn, it’s your choice: take a tour of Charlottetown or a drive to see the rare mobile sand dunes of Prince Edward Island National Park. Late afternoon, head to your hotel – just steps from the Charlottetown boardwalk and Peake’s Wharf; spend the evening at leisure and dine tonight as you choose. Meals BL

5. P.E.I. NATIONAL PARK & GREEN GABLES Following time to explore Charlottetown, depart for a visit to Prince Edward Island National Park; see salt marshes rich in wildlife, freshwater ponds, dramatic bluffs and quaint fishing villages as you travel along the island’s coastline. The view from Orby Head, the park’s highest point, is a delight – as is a tour of Green Gables House, the farmhouse immortalised by Lucy Maud Montgomery in her literary tales of the red-headed orphan. Tonight, dig into a traditional lobster dinner – a must-do dining experience on P.E.I. Meals BD

6. A BRIDGE TO HISTORY IN NOVA SCOTIA Cross 8-mile-long Confederation Bridge joining Prince Edward Island to the province of New Brunswick, and then continue on to Nova Scotia for a choice between a guided tour of the Port-Royal National Historic Site and the Habitation, where costumed interpreters bring the 17th-century settlement back to life, or the Fort Anne National Historic Site in the centre of historic Annapolis Royal. Spend the evening at leisure at your hotel overlooking the Bay of Fundy in Digby, known as Canada’s Scallop Capital. Meals BLD

7. WHALE WATCHING AT DIGBY NECK Meet a local expert for a presentation on area wildlife before heading out to the strip of land known as Digby Neck, a haven for whale- and seabird-watchers (weather permitting); it’s a wonderful place to spot finback, minke and humpback whales and plenty of seals. Spend the afternoon as you

wish, then join us for a farewell dinner that includes a tasty presentation by a local fisherman on the revered history and harvesting of the world-renowned – and melt-in-your-mouth delicious – Digby Scallop. Meals BLD

8. JOURNEY HOME At Grand-Pré National Historic Site, visit the site of the church and cemetery of the 17th- and 18th-century Acadian village that inspired Longfellow’s famed poem, Evangeline. Continue to Halifax. Tour ends: 11:45 AM at Halifax International Airport. You should allow 2 hours for flight check-in. Meals B
