Looking at lower GWP refrigerants
The Kigali summit last October brought more certainty in regard to refrigerant phase-downs in HVAC-R. Yet, the industry acknowledges the need to use mid-term alternatives for some applications until the long-term picture is clear. Based on this, Danfoss continues to explore the best options with 34 refrigerants globally.

ustainable solutions are in the best interest of all stakeholders in the HVAC-R industry. European F-Gas regulation, the US SNAP regulation, HFC phase down in Japan and phase out of CFCs and HCFCs in the Montreal Protocol all seek to promote a low GWP future.
By consolidating all the regional legislation into one qualification program, Danfoss works to make it easier for the industry to find the right path forward.
“By making a qualification program of this calibre comprising 19 product families, we hope to ensure a viable path forward for our customers in commercial refrigeration and air conditioning,” says Torben Funder-Kristensen, head of public affairs, Danfoss Cooling. Different refrigerants are emerging as viable substitutes for R404A subject to bans or quotas in 2017 in the USA and from 2020 in Europe.

in all climates, especially with the recent addition of the promising Ejector technology. When it comes to commercial refrigeration applications and condensing units, a changeover to R407A and R407F has already taken place in many areas, reducing the GWP impact by about 50%.
Several additional substitutes are emerging such as R448A and R449A for medium temperature – and R452A for low- temperature refrigeration.
