THE HVAC & REFRIGERATION SHOW
Keeping one step ahead
The HVACR Show team talks to Graeme Fox, Senior Mechanical Engineer at the BESA about all things ‘industry’!
How has that service provision changed over the years? The Elite scheme was the single voluntary company
registraon scheme before F Gas became law and was known as “the REFCOM scheme”. When REFCOM was named as the UK’s company registraon scheme, and that standard was set by DEFRA to be below our current standard, we created a two er registraon to reflect the Elite members’ high standards and responsibility above and beyond what the F Gas regulaons demanded. The REFCOM scheme is the UK’s main F Gas compliance route and REFCOM has inhouse expertise of the regulations, their implications, and technical issues affecting contractors on a day to day basis. Why are you coming to the HVAC & Refrigeraon Show? Mainly to network to meet new and old clients and friends, to see what cung edge systems and methods are available to stay ahead of the trends, and to help advise any members who come to the stand with queries and issues to discuss.
REFCOM is part of the BESA group. Tell us about the services it provides? REFCOM F Gas Cerficaon is the UK’s leading cerficaon body for the F Gas Regulaon mandatory company scheme. We audit companies on applicaon for cerficaon and randomly throughout their registraon as required under statute from DEFRA. We also respond to complaints and monitor the eecveness of the regulaon, liaising closely with both the EA and DEFRA and with other industry bodies. We also have a REFCOM Elite scheme which
registered companies can use to demonstrate best pracce and higher environmental awareness and responsibility with audited gas records and a commitment to support the industry via the ACRIB Skillcard scheme.

to technical guidance and advice easier for members, and an automated audit process currently being insgated to make it easier for companies to apply and renew registraon, we believe that REFCOM remains the essenal portal for any responsible company working in the refrigeraon, air condioning or heat pump sector. Aempts to professionalise the sector are
somemes undermined by other cerficaon bodies making claims that are not correct and by trying to make registraon a price war. That behavior doesn’t do the sector any favours in the long run as the industry tries to not just clean up its act but to demonstrate that it is cleaning up its act. By its involvement with external industry bodies and by employing experts in the sector REFCOM connues to lead the way for the responsible industry.
Where can visitors find you at the show? We’ll be at stand number C26 and available for meengs on request. We will also be taking part in some seminars and technical talks.
