FROM THE BRITISH FRANCHISE ASSOCIATION

The UK’s voluntary self-regulating governing body for franchising

The sky’s the limit

The bfa is aiming to encourage more women into franchising with a women-only business event

O

n 17 November 2016, the British Franchise Association (bfa) will invite women from across the United Kingdom to attend its ‘Women in

Franchising’ event to be held at the Wokefield Park hotel in Reading. The ticketed event sponsored by Business Franchise magazine is open to all women – not just bfa members, and not just franchisors or franchisees, but to any woman who may one day want to franchise her business, or simply wants to know more about the franchising sector as a whole.

At the event, which, last year, was attended by over 100 of Britain’s top businesswomen, the agenda is once again rooted firmly in education, sharing best practice and networking with fellow successful female entrepreneurs. Those attending the event will receive a full day of presentations on pertinent, business-related subjects. These include ‘how to engage an audience and ensure traffic flows to your website’ from Google, as well as real-life stories from successful franchisors on how they built up their businesses. As part of this, there will be a presentation from multi-award-winning franchisor Rachel Ray, who founded the domestic cleaning franchise Bright & Beautiful that now turns over £5million a year. Rachel will be talking on the subject

of ‘how to empower your franchise team’. HR issues will be tackled in ‘how to decode body language’ and ‘how to deal with assertive personalities’, plus many other subjects throughout the day.

“15.5 per cent of all businesses are owned or run by women. In franchising, that figure is doubled to 30 per cent…”

Finally, there will be a presentation by keynote speaker and former Royal Air Force (RAF) fast-jet pilot, Mandy Hickson. Mandy will be talking not only about her experiences of becoming one of the first female pilots to serve in a frontline Tornado GR4 squadron and playing an active role in the conflict in Iraq, but also about the leadership, teamwork and communication required to define and realise specific goals in high-pressure situations. She will also focus on the value of honest and open debriefing after any project or phase, something the RAF always does, but which businesses often overlook. Pip Wilkins, chief executive of the bfa,
