nss photo report

Maureen and Rebekah Chambers had travelled from County Durham and enjoyed a general look about, along with a pleasant social occasion. They have bred Welsh cobs and part breds in the past, though don’t currently have any mares in foal. “It’s nice to see all the stallions in one place”, Maureen mentioned, adding “we’ve had a lovely day out and will definitely return next year.” Similar comments were made by Lorna Johnston, who said; “I’ve had a super day, it’s well organised with a good atmosphere atmosphere and a nice variety of trade stands”.

A good range of trade stands were well laid out, with everything from stud books to feed companies and gift stands. One prominent stand with a super range of information and samples was the Baileys Horse Feeds Stand. Angela Johnson, one of the Baileys Account Managers in the north stated; “It’s important to Baileys to be here today to show the breeding industry the nutritional support available for breeding and feeding young stock.” Angela was on hand all day long to offer advice to those who visited the stand and chat about the products that Baileys offers.

Also offering expert advice was the British Hanoverian Horse Society. A British based stud book working as a daughter society that allows stallions and mares to be graded alongside the German Society, it was

represented at the showcase by Sue Simmons, who is based in Halwhistle in Northumberland and currently one of the directors of the British Society. Having spoken directly with lots of people, she confirmed that it provided the society with an opportunity for questions from members and non members to be answered directly. “Being here on the stand, it’s a great opportunity to follow up on conversations from previous years and see how people have got on with the breed”, remarked Sue, who has attending the showcase with her stand in successive years. She added; “It’s nice to chat with people, especially about the society and also to be at a well run event”.

For something to keep the Mothers sweet on Mothering Sunday, Laland and Bo were on hand with a selection of jewellery and gifts. Laland owner Claire enjoyed her day, particularly as she could see the stallions presented from her pitch, confirming; “I’ve had a lovely day; it’s nice to be indoors and I’ve had plenty of sales, taken additional orders and handed out lots of cards.

It’s safe to say everyone left having enjoyed a wonderful day. With some great displays and information stands, they left much more informed and certainly for those planning on having foals, much more prepared for the breeding season ahead.
