competition news Getting to know a Club League Rider Alexandra Jackson

Q1

What is your name and where do you live? (Nearest big town and county) I’m Alexandra Jackson and I live in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

Q2

What is the name of your horse or pony and in which levels of Club Leagues do you compete? My pony’s name is Merlin and we compete in 70cm and 80cm classes.

Q3

At which Club Leagues venues and Show Centres do you normally compete? The shows we go to regularly are held at Manor Grange Stud, Milton Equestrian Centre and Arena UK.

Q4

Tell us a little about yourself. Perhaps how old you are, how long you’ve been riding and what you enjoy doing with your horse or pony in addition to Club Leagues?

I am 24 years old and have owned Merlin for 11 years. We like to compete in Riding Club teams in all disciplines and also have fun doing Hunter Trials and Show Cross. We enjoy Club Leagues so much as it allows Senior Riders to ride Ponies at all different levels from 70cm to 110cm encouraging the nervous and novice riders to compete British Showjumping.

Q5

Introduce us to your pony. Merlin is 24 years young and he is an Exmoor x Arab x Welsh C, 14.1 hh gelding. We have been a partnership since we were both 13 years old; we found each other through an advert on the Pony Club website.

Q6

What has been your biggest success to date and what are your plans for 2017? Our biggest team success was with Holme Valley Riding Club in 2007 when we won the Style Jumping at the Riding Club Championships held at the Lincoln Showground. Our biggest individual success was

at the Trailblazers National Finals in 2007 where we finished Reserve Champion in the Junior 75cm class which had 110 competitors. Our plans for 2017 are to compete at the Club Championship Finals in the Summer. We have qualified for the Horseware National Hunter Trial Finals at the end of September and also qualified for the Great Midlands Show Finals in August.

Q7

Finally, who do you rely on to help, both at home and at shows?

My biggest support has to be my Mum, Bev. She has always taken me to lessons after School, and weekly competitions for the last 12 years. I keep my horses at home and my Mum is always up and about early in the morning to feed, turnout and bring in again.
