nss photo report Northern Stallion Showcase a success for breeders

For all equine enthusiasts, but especially breeders, the place to be on Sunday 26th March was the fourth Northern Stallion Showcase, once again organised in association with Bailey’s Horse Feeds. Mothering Sunday 2017 was definitely about organising potential suitors for our equine mothers, together with bringing the human ones along for a day out in the sunshine. Over two hundred people came through the gate to see the 31 stallions being presented on the day.

The super facilities at Newton Rigg College just outside Penrith in Cumbria provided a well laid out and compact venue for the event, with everything required on hand for stallion exhibitors and spectators alike. The full equine complex was put to use, with the main arena being used to showcase each of the stallions individually; the outdoor arena as a warm up and viewing opportunity and the stables as an area to meet the stallions and chat with owners. With a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, the day was organised most professionally to provide a great experience, with thought having gone into every detail for both exhibitors and spectators.

Lorna Johnston who had travelled from Gretna in Dumfries & Galloway remarked that “the length of time each stallion was given in the showcase arena was ideal; enough to see them perform at their best without looking

like they were filling time. Any stallions that I then want to view further; I am able to do that in the stables and outside.” Each of the stallions was given expert commentary to add depth to the information in the programme and ratify the accolades that
