Pony Club ‘Kickstart’ days

The partnership between The Pony Club and QIPCO British Champions Series has been further enhanced for 2017 with the ‘Kickstart’ days open to both Pony Club Members and the general public. These will be held alongside racing at Newmarket Racecourse on QIPCO 1000 Guineas Day on Sunday 7th May and York Racecourse on Saturday 27th May. The ‘Fan Zone’ in association with the Pony Club will return to QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday 21st October. At all three race days, attendees will get the chance to earn their Horseracing Certificate through which children have the chance to enjoy a bitesize lesson at the Jockey School, meet an ex-

racehorse, find out about the tack and kit used for racing and complete a tour of the racecourse. In addition, Pony Club Members will get the chance to earn their Intro to Pony Racing badge. There will also be opportunities to learn about career prospects within racing, such as further education at the British Racing School or Northern Racing College. All attendees will receive ‘The Horseracing Handbook’, which can be used to follow the QIPCO British Champions Series races throughout the summer. Under 18s go free to racecourses nationwide when accompanied by a paying adult and the activities on offer at all three days are also free of charge. www.pcuk.org/bcd/2017.

#MyPetMadeMe: What will your pet make YOU do?

National pet charity Blue Cross is aiming to switch the spotlight on to pet owners with new fundraising campaign #MyPetMadeMe.

The online campaign sees pets select a cringeworthy challenge for their owner which they will need to carry out once friends, family and work colleagues have helped them to hit their fundraising target. To take part, pets will select one of four pieces of paper numbered 1-4 placed in front of them by their owner (whether that’s using treats, toys or other rewards – it’s up to the owner!). Their owner must film or photograph their pet choosing one of the pieces of paper before heading to the Blue Cross website to learn of their fate! The website will reveal details of their challenge and the total amount they need to fundraise. Owners must then share their video or photograph of their pet’s selection on social media with the aim of getting family, friends and co-workers to raise the fundraising amount to see them complete the challenge.

Challenges vary from the unpleasant - such as downing a sprout smoothie - to the downright embarrassing such as wearing pants over your trousers for a day, shaving off an eyebrow or busking in public. Once they have reached their fundraising target, participants must capture themselves completing the challenge and share their film or picture on social media with the hashtag #MyPetMadeMe.
