Sophie Hillier tops Winter Novice Qualifier at Morris EC

Sophie Hillier scooped top spot with a speedy performance in the last of this year’s SEIB Winter Novice Qualifiers held at Morris Equestrian Centre in Ayrshire.

For the final time this season, fifty-one hopefuls began the class and they were all vying for one of the two qualification places on offer for the Championship Final which will be held at the prestigious Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead, West Sussex this summer. With the stakes so high, each combination gave their all as twenty-five first round clears were produced with sixteen going on to achieve a

double clear. Once again, the all- important clock proved to be the decider of the winner. Sophie Hillier from Burnley in Lancashire jumped two lightning fast and accurate rounds on board her own 6 year-old grey mare, Stoney Raikes Gindy (pictured). Against a determined field, Sophie held her nerve to knock over two seconds off the time of her nearest rival and she blasted through the finish in 33.52 seconds. Taking second place was Alister Hippisley-Gratherum who travelled from St. Andrews, Fife with his own 6 year-old bay gelding, G-Star. This pair stopped the clock with their double clear in 35.59 seconds.

Hay steamer business, Haygain, has joined forces with British Showjumping to not only support the British Showjumping Business Partnership, but to also introduce the Haygain Forager to the showjumping market. Haygain already offers a range of scientifically proven hay steamers that eliminate respirable dust in hay and haylage by killing mould spores and bacteria to produce hygienically clean forage and thus aid in the prevention and management of respiratory conditions. By steaming hay and haylage to ultra-high temperatures, the patented Haygain steamer produces highly-palatable forage that is fragrant and appetising and - unlike soaking - steaming ensures that the essential nutrients are retained within the hay. New to Haygain is the Forager. With its many differently shaped and sized holes, as well as its specific combination of sturdiness and flexibility, the Forager allows horses to mimic natural grazing behaviour. It has been designed

to bridge the gap between natural behaviour and stable routine by regulating a horse’s eating pace whilst encouraging a natural feeding position. Déborrah Flament, Director of Marketing at Haygain, commented “We feel that our product range can hugely benefit the members of British Showjumping and we are very excited to introduce our new product the Haygain Forager to them!”

Maria Haig, Head of Communications at British Showjumping, added “We are delighted to be welcoming Haygain into the British Showjumping Business Partnership as a way of promoting both their existing and new products throughout the showjumping audience. The Haygain brand is already very well-known and respected with the equestrian market and we are confident that this partnership will serve to achieve further brand awareness.” To find out more about Haygain, visit www.haygain.com
