Northumberland County Show A great day out for equine enthusiasts

Northumberland County Show is a traditional agricultural event held at Bywell Hall, Near Stocksfield on Bank Holiday Monday 29th May 2017 from 9am until 6pm.

It is the biggest show in the North East attracting over 26,000 visitors from across the region and further afield, featuring competitive classes for light and heavy horses, British Show Jumping, RoR, Concours d’Elegance, new Cob Classes, plus

classes for cattle, sheep, alpacas, pigs, rabbits and Guinea Pigs, home crafts and sheep shearing. This year’s main arena attractions include the amazing Big Pete Monster Trucks – watch these awesome trucks leap through the air and do tricks whilst the driver provides a live commentary to the crowd. A Roman Cavalry re-enactment, plus a Roman camp, with magnificent horses in armour, soldiers and Roman ‘citizens’, will bring history to life for all the family. This attraction is supported by Northumberland National Parks which is launching its ‘Sill Project’, the new gateway facility to the National Park that opens in July on Hadrian’s Wall. It promises to be a great spectacle. In the main ring, a parade of Tractors through the Ages will be led by one of Thomas Sherriff’s big modern tractors straight from

its new showroom in Hexham. Don’t miss the Children’s Area where all the family can enjoy pony rides and face painting, drive mini tanks, meet some of Kirkley Hall’s zoo creatures or scramble up the climbing wall. The 2017 show will be celebrating the first ever ‘Northumberland Day’, that takes place on Sunday 28th May, the day before the show, and the marquees will be festooned with colourful red and yellow bunting in honour of the Northumberland flag. The Northumberland County Show provides a showcase for the finest examples of animal husbandry and agriculture, and applauds the

pride and passion of the area’s equestrians, landowners, farmers and food producers. Schedules are out now and competitors are reminded that the closing date for entries is 29th April. See www.northcountyshow. co.uk for more details. With live music, shopping, bars and beer tent, fun fair, Cumberland Wrestling, gun dog scurry, tug of war, strong man competition, birds of prey, crafts and baking, local food and drink, and over 350 trade stands there’s something for everyone to enjoy. With free parking, easy access from major road and rail routes, it makes a great family day out.
