Easter Monday saw a strong challenge from the leading contenders in the horse winter points showjumping league and the first spoils of the day went to popular winner Olivia Hartley and Peanut ahead of King Kinetic and Abigail Rome. The first of the Winter Points classes, at 75cm, went to the league leaders at the start of the day Amy Idle and Carrick Lady, ahead of Jenni Little and Huckleberry Finn, with Abigail Rome slotting into third on Banaher.
Malcolm Mason and Life & Soul collected the 85cm honours with more than a second in hand over Carrick Lady in second place, Natasha Wannop and Jake in third, Banaher fourth. Jake then produced the only double clear to deservedly win the 95cm class ahead of Thomas

Two days of show jumping over Easter weekend saw the winter points showjumping league championships decided at Blackdyke Farm, with consistent performances resulting in little change at the top of the leader boards. Good Friday welcomed the ponies and their enthusiastic riders, and the day began with a win for Annalise Jeffrey and Disney, in the 60cm class ahead of Sarah Findlay and Becky, Annalise slotting into third with her second ride, the less experienced Pride.
League leaders going into the final fixture, Amy Milburn and Cookie were very quick against the clock to emphatically win the 70cm class, Sarah Findlay and Becky adding valuable points to their total in second.
Heather Macdonald and Mandy took the 80cm class, with Cookie third and Becky fourth, before the final 90cm class saw nerves getting the better of all the winter points contenders and the only clear round jumped by Sienna Morgan and Sadie to

When the final totals were added up and ties decided by the number of outright wins during the entire series, the new 2017 Pony Champion was confirmed as Amy Milburn with Cookie, whose total of 121 points was 10 ahead of Reserve Champions Sarah Findlay and Becky.

Natasha stayed at the top of the line in the final 105cm class, this time aboard Bert, ahead of Gail Smith and Handine, with Jon Fletcher third on Ollie.
The final points totals confirmed the 2017 Horse Champion as Amy Idle with Carrick Lady, whose points total of 73 was an emphatic 20 ahead of Reserve Champion Clare Donoghue and Miss YoYo, who weren’t able to attend the final fixture. All combinations in the top 10 took home a feed bucket brim full of prizes from the Blackdyke Farm tack shop, reflecting the commitment and dedication that goes into a successful winter season of jumping despite the often ‘difficult’ weather conditions in our region.
