Joe, who exhibited Hocus Pocus, said of the event; “The layout is good, the arenas are good and it’s good to be able to talk to folks in both the collecting areas and stables”. Having attended other stallion parades earlier in the year, he said he felt more involved at the Northern Stallion Showcase and felt all stallions and owners were given a fair pitch, with a good amount of space and time. When asked if he would attend next year, “Definitely” was Joe’s reply.
also exhibited the Connemara Skellorn Harrison, the Welsh Section D Abergavenny Welsh Comet and sport horse Take it to the Limit) so that visitors could assess many of the stallions available at Glenwood for the upcoming season. She said; “The showcase is a great place to chat to potential mare owners about the stallions and Newton Rigg provides a good venue to show them off. It’s nice to see lots of people looking at the stallions and making choices”. Cementing the importance of showcasing the stallions to Glenwood Stud, Carrie Dickson who works at the

stud stated that preparations had begun over two months ago, with the week running up to the showcase being very busy getting them ready. “It’s important they all look right” said Carrie of ensuring the stallions were well prepared for the event.
For a stallion owner, the organisation of a stallion event is key and every even the smallest of details had been thought about by the organisers. Attending with her advanced event stallion Forinth and having travelled from East Yorkshire, Jo
Milnes remarked; “Everything was set up ready, with lots of people on hand to give directions of where to go and where the facilities are, which is brilliant. I love the venue, as it’s easy to find and having the stable area so close to the showcase arena gives you somewhere to chat to mare owners, with the stallion right by me and even better, in a relaxed atmosphere”. Proving to be something appreciated by all stallion owners, Joe Hughes-Jones also noted the chilled and calm ambience throughout the day. Even the stallions were chilled.
Another stallion owner stating she would make a return visit to the Northern Stallion Showcase following their day, was Jackie Mathieson who travelled up from Wales with Wolkenderry. Although now gelded, Wolkenderry’s semen was frozen as a youngster. He was wonderfully ridden on the day by Keryn Leg from South Africa to a compilation of Queen music. Jackie commented positively on the lovely light arena, super set up and brilliant atmosphere at the showcase. “It’s a great opportunity to show Wolkenderry to a different audience. We’ve had a lot of good and friendly interest in him. Also being able to bring one of his young stock along too was a great chance to show that he passes his wonderful temperament onto his stock”, said Jackie. “Having not been to the Northern Stallion Showcase before, we’ll definitely be back next year”.
Adding to the compliment of pony stallions on show was Jennifer Manning with her Sports
