competition news Trailblazers ‘Magic’ for Maisie

At just seven years of age, Maisie Farnham and her pony Black Magic have qualified to compete at the SEIB Trailblazers National Championships in the 65cm 12

years and under Show Jumping Championship Class. Qualifying is a special achievement for this brave little rider from Scunthorpe in Lincolnshire, because only last

summer she suffered an horrific fall from another pony and was severely trampled. Maisie needed major surgery to repair multiple fractures to her jaw, but two operations later and

fully healed, she is delighted to be able to ride her ponies again, but understandably with a little more caution. Despite a dent to her confidence, pony mad and show jumping obsessed Maisie was determined to make a courageous return to the saddle and hopes to be just like her hero, John Whitaker. After purchasing Black Magic back in October 2016, the pair has been working hard over the winter to improve their confidence together and forge an unbreakable bond. Said Maisie, “I want to ride just like John, he’s amazing. I can’t wait to go to the finals at Stoneleigh. I’ve always wanted to go to a big show and sleep in the lorry! It’s a dream come true.” Maisie and Black Magic finished second in their class at Sykehouse Arena, which secured their place at the SEIB Trailblazers National Championship, a seven day extravaganza in July and August. “I’m so excited to go to such a big show and spend lots of time with Magic , I don’t know what it will be like but I’m looking forward to it,” added Maisie.

Region’s riders focus on Trailblazers qualification

As this year’s SEIB Trailblazers Championship series gains momentum, riders are setting their sights on gaining second round qualification for the prestigious Championship Finals, which take place at Stoneleigh Park from 28 July - 5 August. Once riders have purchased their Trailblazers qualification card they can compete in as many second round competitions as they wish, to ensure they maximise the chance to secure a ticket to the Championship Finals.

Showing and working hunter first rounds are direct qualifiers for the Championship Finals and run until June, offering additional opportunities to book a ticket.

Classes at the SEIB Trailblazers Championship include; showing and working hunter, dressage, show jumping and combined training and take place across the week;

Dodson & Horrell Dressage 29 - 30 July

Supreme Products Showing & Working Hunter 29 - 30 July

Albion Senior & Junior Show Jumping 3 - 5 August

Griffin Nuumed Horse & Pony Combined Training 3 - 4 August

‘Trailblazers is an unaffiliated series aimed at the grassroots and national competitor. I felt it was important to provide them with the opportunity to compete in a thrilling, competitive and professionally organised equestrian competition series which offers a prestigious, but attainable Championship Final,’ said Kelvin Bywater, Show Director
