In addition to the baubles and built-up let- tering, Graham has also created much larger scale projects using the same tech- nology. For the 1996 EuroShop Exhibition, he was commissioned to build a rustlite beam engine, measuring 5mx3m. “That was used right in the entrance hallway, and we got a lot of feedback from that,” he says. “We even finished it to look like a rusty old machine.”The sculpture was designed to transport visitors back to the height of Britain’s industrial age, and so each piece was carefully constructed and finished with an authentic-looking rusty appearance.” The expanded polystyrene used to create letter- ing was employed to develop the imitation beam engine, a project of which Graham is still particularly proud.
