DIGITAL PRINTABLE MEDIA Finding environmentally-friendly alternatives
Neil notes that Grafityp customers are also on the hunt for PVC-free print media.
“People are trying to be more environmen- tally-friendly about the things they do, which prompted the creation of our range of Colibri films,” he says. There is one available for eco-solvent printing and one for UV, and the focus has been not only on creating something functional, but that is also within reach when it comes to price point. “Five or six years ago, everybody was very into being as “green” as they can, but it costs more to make green materials than it does to make them the conventional way. We would love it to cost less, and we’ve managed to get it very close in coloured films, but it’s harder to do with printable materials.”
To make it more affordable and more within reach for customers, Neil recommends al- ways factoring in the cost of using eco- friendly materials before presenting a quote to the client.
“Quite often, we’ll find that customers have priced a job before taking into consideration
the cost of materials to do it,” he says. “I think there are some preconceptions about what print media is or is not going to be, but everything is different. At the end of the day, you have to look at the broader pic- ture and think about what you’re actually
getting for your money, and work out how to best build that value proposition when pre- senting it to the client.”
