PRODUCT Choice Roland DG is the only choice for wall mural business

Print professional Scott Evans was just 18 when he started out in the print industry seven years ago, opening his own sign company business called Customised. With little knowledge of the sector, Scott needed to learn the the trade quickly. So he ap- proached Roland DG after a colleague rec- ommended them. He sought a compact desktop cutter that was easy to use. After choosing a Roland DG CAMM-1 GX-24 Desktop Cutter,

the predecessor to

the CAMM-1 GS-24, Customised was soon able to produce small graphics and signs.

In 2012 he invested in a Roland DG Ver- saCAMM VS-540i to enter into new mar- kets. The integrated print and cut machine

enabled the business to expand its product range by producing wall murals. With the change in direction for the business, Cus- tomised was re-launched as WallpaperInk.

Using Roland DG’s comprehensive Ver- saWorks RIP software, Scott was able to programme and design bespoke prints to suit each individual’s detailed preferences, and so was able to charge a premium price. Scott wants to expand further by investing in a Roland DG SOLJET PRO 4 XF-640 wide format inkjet printer, one of Roland DG’s most productive printers to date.

Blackman & White cutter

Dutch company Zeil-Doek has found its Blackman & White Genesis cutter so reli- able, it has never had to call out for an en- gineer's visit.

Zeil-Doek, who make a number of products using sail material, has had its Genesis cut- ter for seven years, as part of its work flow that includes finishing and stitching.

Owner Rikkert Hoogenboom said: "We cus- tom make unique designs and constructions using PVC-coated fabric that can also be printed with logos, branding and advertising messages.

"We have to be able to finish the designs to any specification, and the accurate cutting of the Genesis with conveyor guarantees accurate results every time."

Any issues have all been solved over the phone and I can always

speak to a Blackman & White engineer when necessary.

Zeil-Doek's products include various types and sizes of awnings and spans such as marquees, tents, stages and patio shades, which can all be printed and meet the re- quired health and safety conditions, such as non-flammable material.

"We can even create technical textiles for industry, use tension fabric to create inter- nal walls and ceilings, or change the ap- pearance of a building by producing a printed outer shell," says Rikkert.

"Despite all the technical challenges of working on such varied jobs, in the number of years I've had Blackman and White ma- chine I have never had to request a visit from an engineer. Any issues have all been solved over the phone and I can always speak to a Blackman & White engineer when necessary."

The Genesis cutter has been working so well for Zeil-Doek, they've not had to get an engineer in for seven years.
