PRODUCT Choice Sustainable graphics for buses

The new Envision Print Film 48C, non PVC films from 3M, was chosen for the graphics on Stagecoach’s 100 per cent biofuel buses, which operate in the West of Scotland.

Stagecoach Group has won environmental awards for

carbon emissions,

its initiatives to reduce including powering

buses servicing routes in Scotland with sustainable biofuel made from waste products. To help these vehicles stand out from the rest, Stagecoach recently invested in special graphics inspired by nature.

OPG in Lanarkshire, recently appointed as a 3M Select1 Platinum partner, applied the graphics to the buses. Stagecoach created the tree-themed concept with floating green leaves, which could be profile cut to create maximum impact without obscuring the view for passengers through the bus windows.

Alan Watson, General Manager at OPG, said: “When Stagecoach presented us with the design, we suggested taking the envi- ronmental theme further by printing the graphics on the latest Envision Print Film

48C. This is an intermediate film that com- bines enhanced sustainability with ideal per- formance at an economical price.”

The Envision films contain no PVC or added halogens, and so eliminate potential haz- ards to the environment upon disposal at end of life. Envision Print Film 48C has fea- tures such as Comply Adhesive by 3M with air-release channels; as well as Controltac Graphic Film Technology that makes it "fast and easy" to apply.

OPG’s commitment to safety and the envi- ronment complements the properties of En- vision film, which is cleaner and safer to produce than conventional vinyls, as well as being easier to dispose of safely.

OPG also used solvent-free latex ink tech- nology to print the leafy graphics. This helps further reduce the impact each bus has on the environment, says the company. The graphic for each bus was printed in three pieces, which were laminated and profile cut ready for separation, before being finally ap- plied to the buses.

The leaf graphics printed on Envision Printed Film 48C from 3M, a range of non PVC films that are better for the environment.

Alan said: “Envision Print Film 48C is as easy to use as a conventional intermediate film, which allows us to deliver an environ- mental edge not only for vehicle graphics and wrapping but also signage, shop fronts and wall graphics. Overall the Envision Range offers versatile choices for attractive, long-lasting and sustainable graphics every- where.”

Shimmerdisc proves that virtually anything is possible using a Roland DG machine

Shimmerdisc is an innovative new business formed by digital print veteran Andrew Ainge.

The company create sequinned displays that use light-reflecting discs to produce photographic quality graphics, which appear to move as the light catches them. Each disc is individually printed on a UV flatbed digital printer, such as the newly launched Roland DG VersaUV LEJ-640FT, to create "pixel perfect images with a unique twist". Every module is reverse printed and opti- cally clear to provide an animated display that offers a convincing 3D effect, says the company.

Roland DG is constantly looking for innova- tive applications that work in harmony with the versatility of its devices, to create prof- itable output solutions for its customers. They were impressed by the impact that Shimmerdisc’s product makes. The recently formed business is "perfectly suited both for the Roland DG UV-LED technology and also for the creativity and boundless imagi- nation of Roland DG users".

Rob Goleniowski, Sales Support at Roland DG said: “Shimmerdisc uses one of the most innovative techniques available on the current market, and has proved that creative boundaries are constantly being pushed in our industry."
