TRAINING SECURE YOUR BUSINESS WITH Investing in your workforce will future-proof your company
T
he batle to recruit and retain the best staff is always a challenge. It is imperative for firms to
look into offering training and support if they wish to hold on to employees. Staff who are given extra
training can feel valued and are more likely to stay in the company. Tere are a range of courses
that employers can send their staff on, many of which can be based around their work. Businesses looking to take on
new staff should also take notice of apprenticeships. Last year the Scotish
Government revealed that more than 25,000 new modern apprentices (MAs) had started training in 2014/15. Te figures, compiled by Skills
Development Scotland (SDS), confirmed that more than 101,000 people in Scotland have started an MA in the last four years. According to SDS, 92 per cent
of MAs stay in work once they are qualified and the majority of
employers, who have taken on MAs, say they are positive about the experience, with 96 per cent stating that MAs are more able to do their job. Tere are several sectors, from
councils to construction and IT, that are eligible and would benefit by taking on new recruits and offering them on-the-job training and experience.

For new and firmly established
businesses, training new and current employees is invaluable. As Scotish exports continue to grow, the need to connect with customers and operators in other languages becomes imperative. In the December edition of
Glasgow Business magazine we revealed that the last statistics released at the beginning of 2015 showed record exports of goods and services totalling £27.5 billion – a 7.2 per cent increase on the previous year. To ensure your customer base
