welcome agreement with John M Watson OBE on a donation of £100,000 from the John Watson Foundation to begin Glasgow Chamber’s first foray into investment support for young businesses.


8. EVENTS SUCCESS


A big positive of 2015 was the sheer number of people who atended our events in 2015. Glasgow Chamber hosted more than 100 events in total, which drew a combined audience of more than 4500 business people. Our Glasgow Talks series, supported by

Street Avenue improvements. Tis has been a helpful lever in ensuring that the city tackles some of Sauchiehall Street’s well-understood challenges. We will begin to see the practical outcomes of this at the end of 2016, beginning of 2017.


4. ALL-ENERGY CONFERENCE


Glasgow Chamber’s successful partnership working with event organiser Reed International, Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Science Centre and the City Council’s Sustainable Glasgow Board contributed to a combined ‘Team Glasgow’ support for delivering a very successful All-Energy Conference in May. Te event’s first Glasgow conference


saw around a 30 per cent increase in visitor numbers, with around 450 companies from 20 countries atending. Te three-year deal to host the event will spur the city’s development as a genuine hub for renewable energy research and development.


5. AWARD SUCCESSES


Glasgow Chamber hosted the largest Glasgow Business Awards and Inspiring City Awards in our history. Inspiring City Awards (ICAs), atendance rose to 400 recognising the contributions of so many individuals, companies and organisations to the success of the city. Te Glasgow Business Awards (GBAs) saw 16 trophies awarded to businesses from across the west of Scotland at an awards evening atended by 700 business people. Key to the success of these events was the

the ICAs, and the Evening Times and Te Herald and as our media partners.


6. POSITIVE MESSAGING OF GLASGOW


Our continuous support for investment in the city has led us to tell Glasgow’s positive economic story both within the city itself and to the wider world, culminating in Stuart Patrick’s very well received speech at the State of the City Conference in November. We have continued to communicate and


refine messages around Glasgow’s position as an economic powerhouse and no longer as a city in need of regeneration. Te city saw more events puting us on the


world stage, such as the Davis Cup, the European Judo Championships, the World IPC Swimming Championships, the World Gymnastics Championships and the prestigious Turner Prize.


7. JOHN M WATSON OBE DONATION We were delighted to come to a hugely


Clydesdale Bank and University of Glasgow Adam Smith Business School, has atracted leading speakers, including First Minister Nicola Sturgeon MSP, Jim McColl OBE, Will Whitehorn and World Champion gymnast Beth Tweddle MBE. Our networking events – Reaction


Chamber and Aſter Hours – have ensured members have regular and relevant networking opportunities including in some quirky venues. We have also taken our members behind


the scenes at the BBC, West Brewery and the World Gymnastics Championships.


9. MEMBERSHIP SUCCESS


We achieved the second year in a row of net gains in membership. We have one of the highest retention rates of members in the UK and a net gain of 50 members this year. Our new members ranged from


Manchester City Football Club to the Fraunhofer Centre for Applied Sciences. Glasgow Chamber continued to expand


its offering for members including the development of the Green Light Programme
