Lost in the qualifications maze? » Let the SCQF Partnership be your guide in staff selection
G
ot your ‘O’ Grades in the ‘70’s? So you’re either an ageing glam rocker or a punk. Nothing ‘Ordinary’ about that. But do you know what
your qualification from way back then is equivalent to today? Do you understand the range of qualifications and certificates potential employees are presenting? You should check out the ‘Old vs New’
resource from the Scotish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF). It’s a timeline showing Scotish National Qualifications and their approximate SCQF levels from the 1960s through to the present day. For those of us lost in the fog of
qualifications past and present, this handy litle table shows how current and old qualifications relate to one another in terms of their SCQF level. Te SCQF level atached to a qualification determines the level of difficulty while the credit points refer to the time it takes to complete the learning programme or qualification. Tis table can be used by anybody with
a need to understand National Qualifications (normally awarded at school). Great if you’re an employer recruiting across a wide age range or a parent trying to work out where your own qualification sits alongside those offered today in schools. Te SCQF Partnership also offers a range
of resources to support employers in effective recruitment and workforce development. A number of organisations are already experiencing a variety of benefits from engaging with the free ‘How to Guides’ and ‘Employer Levelling Tool’ and the SCQF Partnership runs a series of workshops designed to introduce employers to the guides and highlight their benefits. Tere is a wealth
