specialising in their own field. Its Non-Mechanical Plant

division was established in 2009 followed by Liſting Hire and Sales in 2011. In 2014, it added three new divisions, Welfare Services, Survey and Safety Hire, and Event Services. Tis was followed in 2015 by the launch of its Vehicle Hire and London Tools and Access. Tis has resulted in the opening

of 23 new locations and turnover growth of 21 per cent over the past year to £143 million, with staff numbers having grown by 21 per

cent over the same period. GAP, formed by Gordon

Anderson in 1969 and now run by his sons, Joint Managing Directors Douglas Anderson and Iain Anderson, said it expects similar growth for the 2015/16 year. Te company likes to pride

itself on having the youngest fleet of vehicles and machinery on the market and maintains that it invests a bigger percentage of its turnover on new equipment than anyone else in the market. But this ‘young’ equipment is matched by a depth of experience

– GAP has more than 45 years on the clock in the plant hire business. It highlights the fact that it offers eco-friendly products – it says it offers a range of products that are easier on the environment. GAP Hire also highlights the

strength of its relationships with its suppliers which, it says, allows it to source equipment that it does not itself have in stock to allow its customers to complete any job on site. Te business offers a dedicated hire desk for large accounts –

providing the hire of all types of equipment to a customer’s sites in various parts of the country. GAP’s senior management

team stress that employees realising that they are respected and valued is key to the company achieving its success. Another factor in GAP Hire’s

triple award success was the quality of its submission to the judging process. A member of the Chamber Judging Panel said that the GAP Hire nomination was the best-writen application they had seen.
