Remanufacturing railway buffers

Iain Gulland, Chief Executive, Zero Waste Scotland

goal of creating a beter living environment for Glasgow’s citizens. As part of the programme, Glasgow

Chamber and Zero Waste Scotland aspire to establish the city as a ‘Circular Economy Business Hotspot’ in Scotland. A key event in achieving this will be a Mini Summit meeting and Influencers Dinner, which will be held involving thought leaders, influencers and decision makers across the city. Te Influencers Dinner will draw together

around 20 carefully selected senior leaders in the city and a Mini Summit on the theme of the Circular Economy will aim to reach a wider group of people from the public, private and academic sectors. Glasgow Chamber and Zero Waste

Scotland will also host a Zero Waste BOOSTcamp - a high profile event which will include senior business influencers, CEOs, academics, politicians and thought leaders interested in ‘Green’, resource efficiency and circular economy issues. Te BOOSTcamp will take a similar form to Glasgow Chamber’s extremely well received

two-day Tomorrow’s City Centre event and will draw on the BOOSTCamp event concept developed by Circle Economy Netherlands. A key driver is to aid wider knowledge

transfer with Circle Economy Netherlands. Glasgow Chamber is currently exploring options in terms of how best to deliver this

across all stakeholders and interested parties. Other aspects of the partnership will see

Zero Waste Scotland contribute to Glasgow Chamber’s dedicated Green Business Network and work with the Chamber to raise awareness of a wide range of initiatives which are of interest and benefit to members.

ABOUT ZERO WASTE SCOTLAND...

Established to be an expert on resource efficiency and the circular economy, Zero Waste Scotland works to support the delivery of the Scottish Government’s Zero resource efficiency and circular economy priorities. Its aim is to influence and enable change: from gathering evidence and informing policy, to motivating practical behaviour change in individuals and organisations through its programmes and brands. Zero Waste Scotland makes

direct interventions to effect change, usually in the form of finance, business support,

technical advice, training and competence development or communications support. [It works strategically with

other key partners including the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), Scottish and Highlands Enterprise, Scottish Futures Trust and Skills Development Scotland.] Zero Waste Scotland offers

wide-ranging support to businesses across Scotland, including its Resource Efficient Scotland business support service, which provides free online tools, training, and site visits to help businesses of all types and sizes

identify ways to use resources more efficiently and save money. Funding options are also

available to make implementation possible, including the SME Loan fund that offers loans - which can be interest-free - of up to £5,000. Visit www. resourceefficientscotland.com to find out more. Businesses interested in

making a commitment to resource efficiency are also encouraged to consider making a Resource Efficiency Pledge. The Pledge scheme asks businesses to commit to between three and six resource efficiency actions, and recognise

success through an accreditation scheme. To learn more, visit: pledge. resourceefficientscotland.com Zero Waste Scotland also manages Scotland’s Carrier Bag Commitment, on behalf of the Scottish Government. By signing up to the Carrier Bag Commitment, retailers can commit to donate proceeds to good causes and access a reporting database to feed into national reporting on the impact of the Carrier Bag Charge - which is already thought to have reduced carrier bag use by around 80% in its first year.
