Museum of the American Revolution by PaulDecker

On July 16, 2015, the Museum of the American Revolution, nestled in the heart of Philadelphia’s Most Historic Square Mile, came one big step closer to reality as it was “topped-off” in the glorious summer sun.

Celebrating the placement of the last steel beam atop the under-construction building was the usual cast of state and local dignitaries. But not lost in the crowd was an ex-patriate Frenchman whose idea started the ball rolling toward that day.

There - and “beaming” - was Jean- Pierre Bouvel, who as then-president of the Valley Forge Historical Society, came up with and pursued all the way to congress an idea to build a museum on the grounds of Valley Forge National Historical Park. The concept was birthed in the early 1990s from Bouvel’s amazement that there existed no place in the United States celebrating and teaching the global significance of our nation’s defining event - the American Revolution - to Americans and citizens of the world.

While its location changed along the way, the mission of and support for the 150-million dollar project has only grown stronger, and it’s now on-track for completion in the spring of 2017.

For meeting and event planners comes the good news that the Museum of the American Revolution will offer a diversity of opportunities for hosting up to 360

guests in a dedicated 2,500-square foot space, in addition to a pre-function area, classrooms, and a boardroom and terrace.

Additional details will be announced in plenty of time to book space well before opening, and staff is already fielding requests for available dates. As plan- ners know so well, no venue develops event attendance better than “new!”

The museum soon will announce a pre- ferred caterer relationship, to include responsibility for rental sales, and its organizational structure also calls for a group sales staff.

President and CEO Michael Quinn is unabashedly excited about what the museum will mean to Philadelphia and the entire region. “Philadelphia was the headquarters of the American Revolution and, in exploring its full story, the Museum of the American Revolution will provide context for the many iconic historic attractions that are just steps from our door," he said. "Our powerful exhibits will bring to life the original, greatest generation, whose service and sacrifice gave us the freedoms we con- tinue to enjoy.”

He added, “Of course, we’re also pleased to become one of the city’s newest events venues, offering planners a unique venue in our beautiful building designed by the renowned Robert A.M. Stern Architects.”
