Sweet, Sweet History

The story of The Hotel Hershey in Hershey, PA is about as sweet as it gets. Milton S.Hershey, the chocolate magnate and the town’s namesake, opened the hotel in 1933, but it took "a village" to accomplish the task.

When the Great Depression hit, chocolate production slowed down, but Hershey didn’t want the people of the town to go unemployed, so he created “The Great Building Campaign,”wheremore than 600 men were employed in building struc- tures that still stand today, including: The Hotel Hershey, Hershey Theatre, the Historic Hersheypark Arena and others.

The Circular, which is The Hotel Hershey’s flagship restaurant, opened in 1934 and was inspired by Hershey's experiences while traveling alone for business. Often

he was seated in a corner, behind a pillar or near the kitchen of the restaurants where he ate. Thinking about the guests comfort at his own restaurant - and not wanting them to have the same experi- ences he had - Hershey built a circular- shaped restaurant without any obstructed views. In addition, the kitchen is located down a private hallway - away from the guest seating area.

Today, The Circular offers an American dining experience with small plates and drinks at the bar. Another restaurant at the hotel,The Harvest serves cuisine inspired by local and regional ingredients.

For an authentic Italian dining experi- ence, Trevi 5 treats diners to selections with a contemporary twist on traditional Italian cuisine. Or, attendees can meet clients, visit with acquaintances or enjoy a night out with the teamat Iberian Lounge,

where signature chocolate cocktails and light fare are served by a grand fireplace.

Groups will enjoy the historic charm, modern upgrades and abundance of amenities at The Hotel Hershey. In addi- tion, the grounds of the property provide plenty of options for networking, team building activities and meetings.

The Hotel Hershey’s Castilian Room, its original ballroom, shows off historic architecture, while a sundeck provides views of the formal gardens. For a memo- rable event, the Hershey Gardens are located just across the street from the hotel.A three-and-a-half-acre garden with more than 12,000 rose bushes, attendees can walk through this 23-acre botanical display garden.

Planners should make sure their groups take advantage of the hotel’s complimen-
