PapalVisit Philadelphia is celebrating the success of the recent World Meeting of Families Congress (WMOF) and the historic

papal visit by Pope Francis. These events showcased Philadelphia and the Pennsylvania Convention Center to a global audience with the Benjamin Franklin Parkway having been transformed into the site of the Papal mass on September 27, 2015.

The convention center also was transformed, with two exhibit halls of 213,000-square feet being converted into a 12,000-seat church complete with stained glass, a replica of Michelangelo's famed Pietà on display, a soaring stained glass entrance on Broad Street and a media center capable of handling 4,000 members of the press. The center demonstrated flexibility, sophisticated technology and a talented staff.

According to Jack Ferguson, president of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau (PHLCVB), security was another huge undertaking during the WMOF and Pope Francis' visit to Philadelphia, largely because of the pontiff's desire to be close to the people. "The city of Philadelphia provided a beautiful experience for those who came to see the pope and to attend the World Meeting of Families, which was broadcast and seen all over the world."
