WORLD NEWS IN BRIEF

GOOD PROSPECTS FOR PISCINA & WELLNESS BARCELONA With still three months to go, Piscina & Wellness Barcelona has already exceeded the previous edition's contracted floor area, with confirmed attendance by many leading brands. In total, more than 260 direct exhibitors from 25 countries are expected to be there.

This will mean an 11% growth in the number of direct exhibitors and contracted surface area compared with 2013. With an expanded offering and more activities, the exhibition has increased the focus on wellness, which is now added to its name. The high proportion of visitors from abroad (37% in the 2013 edition) is another factor that draws exhibiting companies, creating opportunities for business contacts with professionals from around the world that will help boost their exports.

Piscina & Wellness Barcelona takes place 13 - 16 October at Fira de Barcelona's Gran Via Exhibition Centre.

EXPERTS CLEAR THE WATER ON THE COLOURFUL POOL MYTHS

As the swimming season kicks off, health experts from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Water Quality and Health Council and the National Swimming Pool Foundation (NSPF) have teamed up to launch a campaign to stop people from peeing in the pool. To do so, they are busting a couple of colourful myths associated with this clandestine activity.

According to a new survey conducted by Survata on behalf of the Water Quality And Health Council, nearly half of Americans surveyed incorrectly believe that there is a chemical that is added to pools that turns a conspicuous colour in the presence of urine. In the same survey, 71% also incorrectly blame chlorine for causing swimmers’ eyes to become red and irritated.

KLAFS Sauna Wins Plus X Award

The Matteo Thun Edition sauna is a true-born winner. The jury of the renowned ‘Plus X Award’, which is dubbed by experts the world’s largest innovation award for technology, sports and lifestyle, has awarded this extravagant sauna creation the ‘Best product 2015/2016’ in its category. Lots of wood, lots of glass and lots of privacy characterise the generously presented sauna booths by Matteo Thun and Antonio Rodriguez. The front and the anterior side walls are made from glass from floor to ceiling and open up the sauna, which is flooded with the light that pours through. Special attention was paid to the lighting design: the light sources are indirect, integrated into the edges of the invitingly large seating steps – hidden from the observer.

The distinctive exterior of the sauna stands out with its unique interplay of wooden rails and joints. This makes it almost impossible to see inside. There is a choice of hemlock, oak or walnut wood. The invisibility of technology is a key principle of Matteo Thun and Antonio Rodriguez, which is why the sauna heater is positioned discreetly beneath the bench. Nothing

disturbs the view, the bather is submerged in light and warmth, thus allowing the feeling of relaxation to unfold especially well. With its international and independent jury, the Plus X Award, which is in its 12th year in 2015, is according to its organisers, the world’s largest innovation award for technology, sports and lifestyle. The main criteria for an award are newly developed and innovative technologies, exceptional design and intelligent and simple operating concepts. Criteria such as good ergonomic and ecological product features, an advanced feature set as well as the use of high quality materials and their processing lead to a sustainable product with a long life and thus are also worthy of recognition.
