LED Lighting Offers Significant Savings

While underwater lighting is not mandatory in most swimming pools, it is often used to improve safety in the pool. Powerful underwater lighting greatly enhances visibility in the basin and is therefore a very effective tool for lifeguards.

For years, Light Emitting Diode (LED) lighting was overlooked due to low power and reliability, but with new advances in technology, power and controllability, it has rapidly become the pool lighting option of choice and there are a number of brands available in the UK.

For commercial pools, it’s important to create an environment that’s comfortable for users whilst being energy effi cient for the operator. In these energy conscious times, that means recovering and recycling heat. The Delta from Calorex is the ultimate environmental control system. It’s designed specifi cally to take full control of the whole indoor environment and pool water heating and models 1-8 are now available with the new and much talked about Touch Screen Control.

The state-of-the-art technology on these models, allows the customer to control the temperature and humidity levels of their pool hall straight from a smartphone, laptop or tablet. The same technology will also be available for the larger Deltas, models 10-16, towards the end of 2015.

The package includes a colour touch screen with Ethernet connection port that can be connected to an internet hub (not supplied), thus allowing the client to read actual conditions on site and even adjust set points from their computer or smartphone. Manager of Certikin’s H&V division, Jo Catterall, says: “The new Delta was hugely popular and well received by customers at the SPATEX trade show earlier this year and so we are delighted now to be rolling it out. It’s rare nowadays for anyone to be further than a few metres away from a laptop or smartphone so this new development is in keeping with the busy lives we all lead.”

As well as this exciting development, the Delta range has undergone a number of signifi cant upgrades including: • Speed controllable EC/inverter fans in all models

• Increased pool water LPHW heat exchanger sizes

• Lower power consumption, creating increased effi ciency

When it comes to underwater lighting, Golden Coast’s favourite manufacturers include LED specialist EVA Optic. Jamie Adams says: “While this company’s LED lights are more expensive to buy than their halogen equivalents, this investment soon pays back through its lower energy usage, greater reliability and longer life. What’s more, they are easy to fi t – whether you prefer fl ush or surface mounting. And because of their unique, airtight design, they can be placed at depths of up to 25 metres.” EVA Optic underwater lighting also scores highly on safety, as the lamp’s wide beam ensures an evenly lit pool with no dark corners. There are many different options for lighting effects, depending on the combination of lamps chosen. For some, constant Warm White or Daylight White is most appropriate. Others may choose a mix of colours and use one of EVA Optic’s DMX controllers to create a variety of customised, fast or slow changing colour scenes.
