P U B L I S H I N G
Three amazing summers in a row was, I guess for here in the UK, a little too much to ask for! Still, despite the weather being more than a little stop/start, it could be signifi cantly worse. Encouragingly, even the absence of the prayed for continuous sunshine doesn’t seem to have had an effect on the industry with many companies still reporting being ‘fl at out!’ Certainly getting hold of many people has been a challenge over recent weeks which is always a great sign.
In this summer issue of SPN, we’ve our usual wide range of features which cover a number of subjects across the wet leisure industry. They include the latest products within the fast moving water testing sector and water treatment products and systems that are reducing or even eliminating the use of chlorine in treating pool and spa water.
There’s an opinion piece from Golden Coast’s Jamie Adams which highlights the downside of the increasingly price comparison way in which we purchase products plus a look at Heatstar – the specialist British manufacturer of heat recovery and humidity control systems for pools – who are celebrating their 35th anniversary. Congratulations!
With Leisure Industry Week (LIW) taking place in September at Birmingham’s NEC, our August issue traditionally carries more information for the commercial sector and inside you’ll fi nd our ‘10 Products To Improve
Effi ciency And Save Money’ feature which should be of interest to anyone that owns or operates any kind of swimming pool that isn’t a domestic one. There’s a feature on Service & Maintenance Contracts too – a crucial service that ensures the doors of commercial facilities are kept open so that revenues and reputations are not affected. There’s also a piece from the STA’s Pool Plant Team on two of the challenges that many commercial pools will face this summer due to the change in temperatures.
In addition to these features, we have our regular stories from the British Swimming Pool Federation (BSPF) which this issue includes some interesting views on the role of the contractor, plus information on the UK’s entries into this year’s EUSA European Pool & Spa Awards – the winners of which will be announced at Piscina & Wellness Barcelona. In addition, there’s our usual roundup of all the latest news and views from across the UK wet leisure industry and around the world.
Unfortunately, and going back to the subject of LIW, we haven’t included our usual preview of the show due to the falling numbers of wet leisure companies that had confi rmed their attendance at this year’s event. However there is still time for this to change so do check out the LIW website which will be kept up-to- date with the latest companies that will be exhibiting come September. With new owners running the event for the fi rst time, SPN will still be attending to see how it goes – so maybe we’ll see you there!
One fi nal note. Make sure you’re a regular visitor to the SPN website as there is always exclusive content published within its pages that doesn’t appear within the pages of the magazine, including the latest jobs. If you’re into social media, why not follow us on Twitter or Facebook too. Many have already and it’s a great way to be alerted to our online stories. Here’s to a great summer!
