The Only Way is Essex Certikin!

Situated on Canvey Island on the south coast of Essex, Waterside Farm Leisure Centre recently underwent a multimillion-pound refurbishment to enable the seventies-built facility to last at least another 20 years. Energy efficiency was at the heart of the renovation, so it’s no surprise that Certikin equipment featured strongly when it came to the renovation of the swimming pool. Castle Point Borough Council enlisted the services of water leisure specialists, World Leisure UK Ltd who ripped out the outdated and inefficient plant room with its old horizontal steel filters. Automatic backwash valves and control panels were installed along with 1.4m Certikin SLX Filters (two for the learner pool and four for the main pool).

The Certikin SLX range of commercial swimming pool filters are available in diameters from 1,050mm up to 3,000mm, and with a variety of filtration rates: 11-30 m3 m3

/m2 /m2 /hr; 40-50 m3

/hr; 30-40 /m2

/hr.

The filter is manufactured from bobbin wound fibreglass

and polyester resin and the distribution and collection system from PVC/polypropylene. Media sight glass and sand service hatch are available as optional extras.

Each filter was installed with a Besgo automatic valve controlled through a control panel. The Besgo automatic backwash valve is simple in operation but completely transforms the operation of commercial and domestic pools.

Distributed exclusively in the UK by Certikin International, the highly versatile Besgo valve can be connected to all customary types of filter; the connecting unions can be turned through 90 degrees (with a further fine tuning of +/- 4 degrees) making it easier to install and it can be closed in one to two seconds. The valve is completely silent in operation with no risk of pressure hammer or low pressure loss. Certikin’s Commercial Manager, Steve Nelson, said: “You don’t need to turn the water pump off while the valve is adjusting position. Its adjustable connections mean that it is

adaptable to most plant room configurations. In the event of power failure the valve will return to its normal filtration position, so there is no chance of accidentally emptying the pool. For commercial applications it will replace the front valve pipe battery sets making it simple and extremely cost effective.” Director of World Leisure UK, Simon Smith said: “With it being an existing site we had to work around access and egress restrictions dictating the size of filters the building could accommodate. Fortunately, the lighter GRP SLX filters worked perfectly. The specification was for an automatic backwash system, and after discussions with Certikin, the Besgo was

the preferred option because of use of ease, and only having to control one valve per filter rather than a typical four or five valve pack system. The backup and support, as usual with Steve Nelson and his team, was second to none.”

DaleSauna-designed Spa On The Breck Launches

Spa on the Breck, a new spa designed by DaleSauna for Wyre Council, has officially launched in Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire. Working for contractor ISG, the brief for the sauna and steam specialists was to create a modern spa with the wow factor that clients could use on a daily basis.

The new spa is situated inside the transformed YMCA Poulton Health & Fitness Centre. As the only spa of its kind in the area, the holistic retreat offers a range of thermal experiences designed to relax and revitalise. DaleSauna supplied and installed a 3m spa pool, pine sauna, tiled steam room, tiled aromatherapy room, tiled salt room, two monsoon showers, an ice feature and tiled, heated benches. The design of the spa has been influenced by its thermal experiences with warm, earthy tones used for the aromatherapy room and the relaxation bench area. Bolder colours, with an emphasis on blue, grey and monochrome hues that suggest a sense of drama, have been employed for features with more extreme temperatures such as the ice feature, salt room and steam room. “To be successful, the spa has to serve a wide spectrum of the public and have a high turnover of clients, so it’s imperative that the finishes are hardwearing, easy to maintain but don’t compromise on aesthetics and style,” said Lynn Russell-Hanson,

10 August 2015 SPN

interior designer at DaleSauna. “We are delighted to have worked with ISG and Wyre Council on this prestigious project. This development is part of a growing trend amongst local authority and trust operators, who are broadening their health and fitness services to provide a wider wellness offering, which has a much broader appeal across the age ranges,” says Gerard McCarthy, Sales Director at DaleSauna.
