Changes At Certikin Include Commercial Team Expansion


James Fleming has recently joined the Commercial team in Technical Sales. He is working across the whole Commercial portfolio but his area of specialism is tiled spas. James will bring his understanding of technical drawings and bespoke project coordination to add additional support to manage your tiled spa projects. At the helm of the Commercial division is Manager Steve Nelson and he is assisted by Technical Sales Advisors Jeff Hawkins, Hannah Blow and Emma Brown.


Selwyn Mindel Hangs Up His


SPATEX Hat A founding director of the SPATEX exhibition, Selwyn Mindel recently announced his retirement from the Board after 20 years of loyal service. Managing Director of the BSPF, Chris Hayes said: “The SPATEX Board would like to thank Selwyn Mindel for his contribution and commitment over the past two decades to ensuring the success of the Show, both in Brighton and more recently in Coventry. He has been a strong advocate for the industry running its own show and has also been a loyal exhibitor. His decision to step down as Director from the SPATEX Board is acknowledged by the other Board members who will assume responsibility for ensuring that SPATEX’s legacy is carried forward.”


In other changes, David Steptoe has been appointed Certikin’s South East Sales Executive so customers in the South of England (everywhere south of the M4 from Kent to Cornwall) will soon be seeing a lot of this face.


He joined Certikin in 2013 and latterly has been working in Sales and Technical Support for the UK Caldera Hot Tub, Endless Summer Enclosures and one-piece pools division. David is from a technical and customer focused background having working in the component supply industry and completed a plumbing apprenticeship before moving to Certikin. Christie Darnton has been appointed Project Co-ordinator for site lining projects at Certikin North in Leeds. Christie manages the process of on site lining installations including producing customer quotes, managing the diary of their installation teams, ensuring installations are completed on the required dates, arranging kit deliveries, maintaining stock, liaising with customers and making sure any issues are dealt with quickly and effectively.

Tom Dundson takes up the post of Project Co-ordinator for the Endless Summer division. Tom’s role focuses on carrying out site surveys – equipped with a van and laser equipment, he is able to ensure that a site is ready for installation work to begin. He is also responsible for overseeing enclosure and one-piece pool installations as well as final handovers.

Martin Symcox Appointed Director Of IQL UK


The Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS UK) is pleased to announce the appointment of Martin Symcox as the new Director of its training subsidiary, IQL UK. Martin has overseen IQL UK as Interim Director since January 2014, when the former director Tara Dillon was seconded to the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA).


Di Steer, Chief Executive of RLSS UK, said: “I am delighted to welcome Martin into his new role as Director of IQL UK. We are experiencing an unprecedented period of growth and with his extensive knowledge and experience, and after his success as interim director, Martin is ideally placed to provide strategic direction for all aspects of our training division as the business continues to expand.” IQL UK is the leading provider of professional lifeguard training in the UK, training around 95% of all pool lifeguards. It also provides pool management and first aid qualifications.


Commenting on his appointment, Martin said: “I’ve been involved in the leisure industry since graduating in 1997 and having worked in numerous operational environments, I’ve know the importance of relationship management and delivering a consistently high level of service. I’m looking

forward to bringing my commercial experience to the new role and helping strengthen IQL UK’s offering and position in the aquatic training and safety market.”


Martin joined the organisation in 2009 as Business Development Manager and has been instrumental in ensuring the delivery of high quality products and services. Over the last 12 months, he has been closely involved in the introduction of IQL UK’s full suite of first aid qualifications. “The uptake has been extremely encouraging. It provides an excellent opportunity for leisure centres and similar organisations to realise savings and provides the potential for additional income streams,” said Martin.
