THE ALTERNATIVE APPROACH
but low-pressure lamps are more than sufficiently effective for residential pools and spas – and have the advantage of consuming less energy.
Other cost-saving features of the TR2 Ultra range include automatic shutdown to conserve power in the absence of flow, as well as a robust, low-maintenance construction. Their reactor bodies are made from UV-inhibited polymeric materials, which are totally resistant to corrosion, and their UV lamps have a life of 18 months. The TR2 Ultra UV systems have a two year warranty, including a pro rata warranty for the lifespan of the UV lamps.
The compact units have been designed for quick and easy fitting. Each comes complete with union adapters, a pressure gauge and a pressure switch, ready for
simple connection to a suitably protected power supply.
TR2 Ultra units are
available in three sizes, to treat flows of 11, 22, or 32 cubic metres per hour. They are equipped with one, two, or three high-output UV lamps and can deliver UV
irradiation at a powerful dose of 30mJ per square

centimetre at the end of lamp life. When it comes to ozone, Triogen’s compact generators have been supplied to private and hotel swimming pools for over a generation. Ozone is regarded as one of the most powerful water treatment solutions, providing disinfection, oxidation and flocculation, resulting in significant improvements to both air and water quality. With its innovative ceramic corona discharge module, which reduces the build up of nitric acid, the Compact TOGB2 ozone generator is designed to operate for 10-15 years without maintenance parts. Well proven in the pool market it offers consistent
EXPLOITING THE SYNERGY BETWEEN
ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT AND OZONE Combined treatment techniques are increasingly used in industrial water and effluent treatment plants to deal with the most difficult pollution reduction problems. Triogen has developed the technique for use in spas and swimming pools and have harnessed the combined power of ozone and UV light in the unique UVAZONE process to improve the quality of pool water significantly. The UVAZONE system has been developed and tested in a municipal swimming pool and comparative results show that the process efficiently oxidises chloramines, organic and chloro-organic materials without the generation of hazardous by-products in the water or atmosphere. In addition, excellent bacteriological results were consistently achieved with lower free-chlorine residuals. The UVAOZONE unit is installed on a by-pass from the return line, downstream of the filters. The chlorinated water is pumped through a venturi injector which draws the necessary vacuum though an air-fed, corona discharge ozone generator

and efficiently mixes the ozone with the water flow. The mixture passes through one or more contact vessels with sequential UV reactors which allow the oxidation and disinfection to occur. Residual ozone is photochemically destroyed before water leaves the contact vessel. Air and unreacted ozone is vented from the contact vessel through the activated carbon to destroy remaining ozone.
The synergy between ozone and UV in this process leads to the generation of highly reactive free radicals. Hydroxyl radicals enhance the decomposition of organic pollutants in a powerful but short- lived reaction, which can only occur in the photoreactor. Because ozone in the water is photochemically destroyed, no carbon is required for deozonation. This removes the risk of bacterial growth under a carbon bed. In all, the UVAZONE system offers excellent pathogen control and a reduction in irritant chloramines levels with no risk of accumulation of reaction by-products, together with easy installation, operation and maintenance.
high ozone outputs to allow the clients safely to set reductions in the residual disinfectant dose, with minimal maintenance requirements and running costs. The vacuum system eliminates risk of ozone leakage during ozone production and it is supplied with a complete range of ancillaries which are required for installation including contact tanks and degassers for the removal of excess ozone gas.
