50 Years Of The Rengers Group
The Rengers Group, which includes one of the leading swimming pool manufacturers in Europe today in RivieraPool, celebrated their 50th anniversary back in May. Their state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor showroom in Geeste in northwest Germany served as an ideal location for three days of festivities. Together with their 200 employees, the Rengers Family looked back on half a century of eventful corporate history. During the official ceremony on Friday night, the founders evoked memories of the agricultural roots of the company. When Josef Rengers founded the company, he used the then relatively new polyester material to produce feeding troughs, cleaning tanks for milk churns and ice water cooling tanks. The advantage over conventional products was that the synthetic products did not corrode. But due to subsidy reduction in agriculture, the business became stagnant and the company looked for alternative ways to use the polyester material and changed their production to swimming pools. “At the time, there were masonry pools and tiled pools on the market, and also a few polyester pools. However, there were no one-piece polyester pools, and this is where we came in,” remembered Josef Rengers. “Frost resistant, seamlessly waterproof and ready to be installed in no time” – these were the advantages of the one-piece swimming pools launched by Josef Rengers. RivieraPool Ltd, which was henceforth responsible for sales and marketing of all pools. Today, the medium-sized family business is run by the second generation of the Rengers family and produces swimming pools, sauna plunge pools, and whirlpools for private gardens and homes, hotels, cruise liners, and municipal leisure pools. Consumers Spend Less Energy Thanks To New Hot Tub Labelling
In an effort to improve consumer energy awareness and demonstrate the energy efficiency of hot tubs, The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP) has announced newly revised American National Standards Institute (ANSI)/APSP/International Code Council (ICC)- 14 2014 Standard for Portable Electric Spa Energy Efficiency.
States that adopt this standard will require a comprehensive energy label on each hot tub, enabling consumers to evaluate their choices when making a purchase. This new labelling will display the energy consumption compared to all other hot tubs.
Hot tub manufacturers are embracing this new standard. “In 2014, the California Energy Commission (CEC) approached the industry looking to increase the energy saving provided
by the appliance energy efficiency language in Title 20,” said Mike McCague, compliance engineer for Watkins Manufacturing and APSP-14 Committee Member, and Chairman of APSP’s International Hot Tub Association Engineering Committee. “Using ANSI/APSP/ ICC-14 2012 as a baseline, APSP, CEC and interested parties worked together to improve the energy position of portable electric spas by updating the standard.”
Individuals taking the lead in writing the standard included McCague; Angelo Pugliese, Sr., Custom Molded Products; and Nathan Coelho, Master Spas, Inc. along with 19 other portable spa manufacturers and related interested parties.
From the sales, service and maintenance perspective, manufacturers must indicate
which hot tub specific covers meet the test requirements so that the spa continues to
perform at peak cost savings efficiency over its life. The maximum energy limit was also closely reviewed to ensure that energy usage and operating costs were kept low for all models. “Working with the CEC and adding to the ANSI/APSP suite of energy efficiency standards for hot tubs and pools demonstrate that the industry is committed to safe, efficient products,” said APSP Vice President of Technical & Standards Carvin DiGiovanni. “And with easy to understand labelling, we’re taking it one step further and empowering consumers to make a more informed and environmentally conscious decision.”
The FIELDS Group Secures Future Of DLW
Netherlands based The FIELDS Group has taken over the business operations of Armstrong DLW GmbH, and in doing so, has secured the future of the DLW brand. As the new investor, the Dutch company is firmly convinced by the ‘Made in Germany’ strategy and will keep the two German plants in Delmenhorst and Bietigheim-Bissingen. The strong DLW brand name will also be kept, to be integrated into the future company name of ‘DLW Flooring GmbH’. The

company, which is best known for its high- quality floorings, also produces swimming pool and pond linings under its DLW Delifol brand.
The takeover means that the continued existence and operations of this tradition- steeped flooring manufacturer are secured. The investor has great confidence in the current management team, with Charles Irving-Swift continuing as the CEO of this time-honoured company.
