Association held a Celebratory Lunch in June at the Parador Hotel in Javea to recognise and salute 12 of its members

who are more than 90 YEARS OLD! The Association can proudly boast of having 15 members who are over 90 but, sadly, three members were not able to attend. After a cava reception in the Parador gardens, members and guests were welcomed by the Chairman, Max Maxwell and then enjoyed a special lunch, after the Association’s Honorary Chaplain, Father Marcus Ronchetti, had said grace. At the conclusion of the meal, Father Marcus then read the Aircrew Exhortation and was followed by toasts to King Felipe, by the President Brian Weskett, The Queen, by Life Vice-President Peter Langley and The Over 90s by the Chairman. Peter Beechey, the Founder and Life Vice-President of the Association, then responded on behalf of the over 90s and proposed the Aircrew Toast: ‘To Absent Friends and Fellow Aircrew’. During his ‘Toast to The Over 90s’, the Chairman referred to the outstanding and much appreciated contributions made by the over 90s to the Association over many years and the President presented every over 90 year old with a unique engraved crystal paperweight and a Certificate of Appreciation. During his closing remarks, The Chairman invited the assembled members and guests to join him in acknowledging the birthday of June Nash, the wife of Brian, the Officer of The Day for the lunch. This unique occasion was blessed with brilliant sunshine and the over 90s all commented on what a privilege it had been to be a guest at this exclusive gathering.

The photograph shows the 12 over 90s with the President and Chairman, relaxing prior to the lunch. The Aircrew Association is a healthy, thriving organisation and if anyone wishes to know more, the secretary is contactable on: 966 404 123.

Mad Hatters Tea Party On Wednesday 17th June

Andy and Stephanie Dexter hosted a Mad Hatters Tea Party to celebrate the completion of over a years work on their new home and garden in the village of La

Puebla. Both Andy and Stephanie are members of Help Murcia Mar Menor and so the charity were happy to use the occasion as a fund raiser. Many of those attending took up the challenge and turned up in an amazing array of hats but as the theme was the Mad Hatter of course toppers were the favourite of the day.

The winners of the best hat competition were Ann Hetherington for the ladies and Bill Saunders for the gentlemen. The afternoon raised 200€ for the charity which will help Help to carry on with their good work helping the people within the Murcia area.

If you can spare a little time during the week ring 968 570 059 and talk with our office staff who will be pleased to tell you how you can help to put a little back into the society in which we all live. Office hours 10am to 1.30pm Monday to Friday.

Calpe Benissa Lions Fashion Show success

An absolutely fabulous time was had by all at the Boutique Carol Fashion Show in the Puerto Blanco Restaurant on the 17th of June. The Fashion Show was run in collaboration with the Calpe/Benissa Lions.

1,305€ was raised, and the Lions will

spend this money on food for Caritas Benissa, Caritas Calpe and the Calpe Food Bank. The food and ambiance were wonderful. The clothes were modelled by a team of well trained volunteers.

Carol very generously donated clothes to the value of 1,200€ for the raffle and raised 115€ by auctioning one of the dresses from the collection. Clothes were also kindly donated to the raffle by the designers Pause Cafe and Joseph Ribkoff.

We would like to say a big thank you to all the people who attended the event, Maria and Patrick and their staff of Puerto Blanco, the models and Carol’s husband, and last but not least to Carol, many many thanks for yet again organising a wonderful event.
