airshow, one of the events of the year, paid its own tribute to D-Day with an exhilarating set piece featuring a healthy dose of pyrotechnics to complement some of the finest warbird flying at any show this year.
Old Warden’s excellent
numbers of crowds wherever they went, but there was plenty else to enjoy. Few events commemorate significant events as well as Duxford, and their D-Day anniversary display was a prime example, with the formation of four C-47s, all of which were veterans of Overlord, providing a thoroughly fitting finale to the show. Shoreham’s superb
season was topped off by the Shuttleworth Collection’s beautiful de Havilland Comet’s long
fans had a bumper year too with the stunning Viggen and Draken of the Swedish Air Force Historic Flight stealing the show at Waddington, whilst RIAT had a veritable fast jet feast featuring the cream of European fast jet solos, headlined by the flamboyant Turkish F-16, the polished Belgian F-16 and the precise Swiss F/A-18.
