It is unsurprising to find the aftermarket decal manufacturers quickly drawing up decal sheets for the new Zvezda Ilyushin Il-62 kit, and the first we have received are from Classic Airliners. Accompanying the Il-62 releases this month are two more sheets for another great Zvezda kit, the Tupolev Tu-154. These laser printed sheets feature excellent definition and colour plus window decals that feature blinds and shading effects. A little different to normal decals, laser printed sheets require you to cut around the required decals as they are on a continuous film, yet this is a small price to pay for such nice schemes.

Yes, this is no illusion; we finally have a modern tooled injection moulded kit of the venerable Illyushin Il-62, and boy has it been worth the wait. Zvezda have certainly made a name for themselves in the airliner market, but are not happy to sit upon their laurels. Each kit they release seems to get even better as is demonstrated in this latest release. Again the panel lines are perfectly rendered for the scale and the moulding of the kit is sublime, resulting in some very fine, detailed and delicate parts. Options for construction include dropped flaps, weighted and un-weighted undercarriage legs, and positionable tailplanes. A large decal sheet, printed by Begemot, is provided which offers up a number of options for both cold war and modern Russia as well as a complete set of airframe stencilling and details. All in all it is a fantastic package with Zvezda setting new standards in airliner plastic model kits thoroughly deserving of its ‘Ultimate Kit’ legend.
