appearance of the ‘new’ Revell Jaguar GR.1A. From the my point of view the sight of this ‘new’ kit was a real bonus – not only do I drive a Jaguar but have great memories of days out in the 1980-1990s motoring up from West London to BAe Warton’s Jaguar/Tornado production-line in darkest Lancashire, a stone's throw from the famous Blackpool tower. Then being taken around by the now retired famous test pilot and author Eric Bucklow... who if memory serves me right was presented with the old ESCI quarter scale Jaguar S in Omani Air Force colours many years ago. Anyway I digress... back to the kit.

familiar about those three grey plastic sprues! So much so, that with a scratch of the head it hit me! This is without doubt the old Airfix/Heller mould from the 1990s, a golden era kit, but with real fit issues! True to form, Revell have included a very

fine decal sheet representing two famous RAF Jaguar squadrons from RAF Coltishall, Norfolk in the guise of No 54 Squadron (with a wonderful sharkmouth) circa 1979 and No 41 Squadron circa 1987 – both in standard RAF Dark Sea Grey/Dark Green schemes.
To my knowledge this is a
first for an ‘Airfix’ mould to appear in a Revell box, although I understand that the moulds were actually produced by Heller in France, who also produced the same kit with Armée de l'Air (French Air Force) parts and decal sheet, that is still very much sort after.
Outline wise the kit appears
‘spot on’ and can be built-up from the box in to a fine representation of the real thing, but I chose to embellish the build with a few extras that were to hand.

French project that was born in the later part of the 1960s both air force aircraft looked very
similar to each other (with pointed nose profiles) to begin with but as time progressed the early RAF GR.1 jets started to appear with a new 'chisel' front end to accommodate a Laser Rangefinder and Marked Target Seeker (LRMTS) system. This totally changed the profile look of the single-seater. The twin- seater T.2s was left unmodified.
With any model constructed
that incorporates a separate nose piece, a good idea is to cement the fuselage and respective nose halves together before the combined halves are joined. The reason for this is to avoid any unnecessary step joint in construction. Cockpit detail is workmanlike, with decals for the instrument panels and a rather crude seat and control column that would benefit from replacement in resin. Mind you if a pilot was installed this would become less of a concern as you cannot see much anyway.
