THE SEPECAT JAGUAR
Sepecat Jaguar GR.1, XZ384/CM, operated by No. 20 Squadron, based at RAF Brüggen, West Germany, late 1970’s. The aircraft carries the standard wraparound disruptive scheme of Dark Green (BS381C: 241) and Dark Sea Grey (BS381C: 638). The insignia of No. 20 Squadron is carried on the engine intake, with the codes outlined in white. The anti-glare panel and leading edges are in matt black. No. 20 Squadron equipped with the Jaguar at Brüggen in 1977 and was tasked in the conventional and nuclear strike role in the event of a Soviet attack. The unit re-equipped with Panavia Tornado GR.1’s at RAF Laarbruch in 1984.

Sepecat Jaguar GR. 3A, XZ113/FD, operated by the F.J.W.O.E.U. (Fast Jet & Weapons Operational Evaluation Unit), RAF Waddington, July 2005. Standard scheme of Dark Sea Grey (BS381C: 638) over Dark Camouflage Grey (BS381C: 629). The F.J.W.O.E.U. insignia is carried on the fin and engine intakes with the latter on a dark blue rectangular background. The ‘FD’ codes on fin are overpainted with Dark Sea Grey.

Dark Camouflage Grey

Sepecat Jaguar T.2A, XX833, operated by Qinetiq, MoD Boscombe Down, July 2007. XX833 is finished in the standard scheme of Dark Sea Grey (BS381C: 638) over Dark Camouflage Grey (BS381C: 629). Forward canopy is a replacement, and is finished in zinc chromate primer. The fuel tank is finished in Dark Sea Grey and Dark Green. A white ‘Qinetiq’ logo is carried on the nose, with an ‘iX’ in light green and white. The forward part of nose probe fairing is in zinc chromate.
Insignia Blue

Sepecat Jaguar FBW (Fly By Wire), XX765, operated by British Aerospace, Warton, September 1981. XX765 is finished in the standard scheme of Oxford Blue (BS381C: 105), Signal Red (BS381C: 537) and white, with the anti-glare panel in matt black. The logo’s of participating companies are carried on the nose, along with RAE crest and white ‘FBW’ titles on the fin. The aircraft was fitted with Marconi Avionics/Dowty Boulton-Paul fly-by-wire control system with no mechanical backup. Dowty Boulton Paul can lay claim to developing the worlds first aircraft to fly with fly-by-wire control in 1957. The serials are in white.
Red
Testors MME: 1503 Testors MMA: E2741
Sepecat Jaguar ACT (Active Control Technology), XX765, British Aerospace, Warton, March 1984. Later in her career, XX765 carried this slightly modified scheme. The ‘FBW’ (Fly By Wire) acronym had been replaced with ‘ACT’ (Active Control Technology), and the aircraft had been fitted with strakes ahead of the wing roots. Overall colouring and markings remained the same, with the wing tanks finished in gloss white.
Gris Bleu Foncé (FS *6187eq.)
Gris Vert Foncé (FS *4097 equivalent)
Sepecat Jaguar B.08, XW566, Flight Systems Department, R.A.E. Farnborough, February 1982. The aircraft carries the standard disruptive scheme of Dark Green (BS381C: 241) and Dark Sea Grey (BS381C: 638) with the undersides in Light Aircraft Grey (BS381C: 627). The forward section of nose underside appears to be in black with the fin and outer sections of the wings in white. The anti-glare panel is in matt black. Note the centreline-mounted low-light television pod. The aircraft was employed to test this for the manufacturer, and was also used for development of heads up displays and low-light television work. She was retired in 1985.

Sepecat Jaguar A, A11/7-PA, operated by EC2/7 ‘Argonne’, Armee de l’Air, based at St. Dizier, 1991. The standard scheme of Gris Bleu Foncé and Gris Vert Foncé with aluminium undersides is carried. The insignia of SPA 31 is carried on the port side of the fin, whilst that of SPA 48 is carried on the starboard (see above left). All other markings are in black with the Jaguar logo carried on the nose.
Sepecat Jaguar A, A112/11-EQ, operated by EC1/11 ‘Roussillon’, Armee de l’Air, based at Al Ahsa Air
Base, Saudi Arabia, Operation Daguet, 1991. French Jaguars sported a number of different colour combinations to the desert scheme. That shown here is the Crème Sable scheme consisting of light stone and tan, with partially overpainted aluminium undersides. All markings are in black, with the emblem of GC. III/6-5 carried on the port side of the fin. That of GC. III/6-6 is carried on the starboard side. The serial and last letter of the code are repeated on the nosewheel door.
