Page 3 All things run their course

It is sad to say that after all the years it has been in existence, all the wonderful women it has brought together and all the good work it has done for and on behalf of the Marina Alta shelters for victims of domestic violence, Women in Business is no more. However, we have not come to bury WIB but to announce that, like the Phoenix rising from the ashes, Quid Pro Quo, Costa Blanca, will continue with the work of WIB.

Since the AGM in March, and with the lack of support from members, WIB has been in abeyance. During this time the committee, who stayed on to see the completion of their tenure, has been using all monies held in the bank account to good use.

Among organisations we have helped are Calpe Food Bank 1047.34€, The women’s shelter 3677.60€ this included dental treatment, pharmacy bills, food, clothing vouchers, fridge/freezer, spectacles, motor repair and ladies personal goods, No+ in El Vergel 399€, Pedreguer shelter 487.49€ and Centro de Acogida de menores, Denia 829.19€.

WIB are leaving you in the good hands of the new President of Quid Pro Quo, Johanna Whittaker, who is a fully qualifi ed English and Spanish banking and currency expert, along with Deborah Evans, secretary, who is a fully qualifi ed International Financial Adviser, and Hazel Smith, treasurer, who we all know is an English Chartered Account and is also fully qualifi ed in Spanish accountancy.

However, although the new team will be running the group on a much higher business level, events held will still generate funds to help others. For further information contact Johanna

May I take this opportunity to thank the 2013/14 committee, Candida Wright - secretary, Nyla Gill - treasurer, Liz Yardley - events, and Nicki Hastings - web manager, for all their support, not forgetting previous members of the committee, who made my years as president such a joy.

Sincere thanks must also go to members of the public for their tremendous support at all the fairs, to MABs, HELP Denia, the Benitachell U3A Knit and Natter group, the Benitachell Charity Shop, Javea Connect, APASA, the Roundabout Charity Shop, Javea, and Kate and Joe Spelling, Katie and Ian at SR Print and Lesley and Mark at Female Focus, Round Town News, The Post, Euro Weekly, CBN to name a few.

Thanks must also go to The Mayors and Deputy Mayors of Calpe and Javea for their continual support at all events.

Thank you all, Maria Verrecchia-Norman President
