MARINE Harvest achieved an operational EBIT of NOK 1 220 million in the second quarter of 2014, compared to NOK 901 million in the corre-

Marine Harvest Group reported op- erational revenues and other income of NOK 6 563 million (NOK 4 445 million) in the second quarter of 2014. Total harvest volumes were 114 176 tonnes in the quarter (79 438 tonnes). Harvest guidance for 2014 is 414 000 tonnes.

HIGHER harvests and strong market prices have combined with a market-led strategy and good export sales to drive a record-breaking half-year for The Scottish Salmon Company (SSC). SSC has reported a successful first half of 2014, with record revenue levels in both quar- ters; Q1 revenues were 48% higher than the previous year, and this continued in Q2, with a 43% increase over the same quarter in 2013.

Big gains for Bakkafrost

THE Bakkafrost Group, the largest salmon farming company in the Faroe Islands, delivered a total operating EBIT of 212.1 million Danish kroners (DKK) in the second quarter of this year. The combined farming and VAP segment made an operational EBIT of DKK

180.0 million in Q2 2014 and the farming segment made an operational EBIT of DKK 159.5 million. The salmon spot prices decreased during the quarter, while the VAP contract prices stayed on a record high level. The company said that because of the decreasing spot prices, the performance in the VAP segment improved during the quarter, and the operational EBIT came to DKK 20.5 million in Q2 2014. The EBITDA for the FOF segment was DKK 57 million.

Record results for Scottish Salmon Company

Total revenue for the six months was £61.5m, up from £42.4m for the first half of 2013. The results reflect SSC’s strong biologi- cal performance during Q2. Warm waters encouraged growth and increased harvest volumes – with 8,027 tonnes harvested in Q2 2014 compared with 5,976 the previous year – and high market prices dominated the first six months of 2014.

Scottish salmon exports on the rise

NORWAY Royal Salmon (NRS) has announced a decrease in year on year operating revenues of 12 per cent in the second quarter of this year. A report in FIS states that the company’s revenues were NOK 595.7 million (USD 96.7 million), less than the NOK 675.6 million (USD 109.6 million) obtained in the same period last year. The operational EBIT also decreased, from NOK 71.5 million (USD 11.6 million) last year to NOK 26.5 million (USD 4.3 million) in 2014. The company also reported a gutted weight harvest of 5,382 tonnes for the quarter, a decrease of 21 per cent on last year. NRS states that this, plus lower sales prices and an increase in provision following uncertainty about the Russian and Ukraine markets, have accounted for the decrease in the company’s operating revenues. There was also a NOK 86.3 million (USD 14 million) decrease in positive cash flow for the quarter compared to last year, with operating activities generating NOK 48.6 million (USD 14 million) for the quarter. However, the company’s total assets – NOK 1,978 million (USD 321 million) increased from last year by NOK 145 million (USD 23.5 million), which represented an increase in NRS’s receivables and fixed assets.

WITH 65 countries now enjoying Scottish salmon, exports of the quality fish have increased by £60 million in the first six months of the year, proving that overseas demand remains high. An additional 12,000 tonnes made its way to kitchens and dining tables around the world marking yet another outstanding period of performance for the industry. These results come as an independent survey of retail and foodservice buyers voted Scottish farmed salmon the best in the world for taste, quality and appearance.
