AQUACULTURE EUROPE 2014 PROMISES TO BE THE BIGGEST AND BEST YET

he annual meeting of the European Aquaculture Society, Aquaculture Europe 2014, takes place on 14-17 October in Donostia-San Sebastian, Spain, comprising an international trade exhibition and conference. The exhibition will feature a wide range of Spanish and international companies presenting the latest products and services for the aquaculture industry. A series of farmers’ day programmes will also be organised for the various sectors of Spanish aquaculture – trout, mussels and marine fi sh – by the producer organisations that are part of the AE2014 Steering


Committee. This year’s conference is titled


‘Adding Value’, and the three thematic plenary presentations will focus on ‘products’ rather than ‘production’. Speakers will discuss how in aquaculture value can be added through processing, transformation and packaging, as well as during the production cycle. The concept of adding value to research by producing ‘knowledge products’ for knowledge advance- ment, developing innovation or supporting policy, will be dis- cussed and the generation of new ‘economic activity products’ based on environmental services, or
