Philadelphia Cricket Club

a Pri vate Club for Meetings

As the Director of Corporate Events for the Philadelphia Cricket Club,my role is to plan private events at the nation’s oldest country club.Through this article series, I will share some of the secrets and unique perks of hosting an event at a private club such as ours.

One thing that makes a private club very desirable as a host venue for an event is that it is more than just a meeting space - it is a destination that guests will feel privileged to experience.

A historical landmark in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood, the Philadelphia Cricket Club was founded in 1854 by University of Pennsylvania students. Our club is filled with history, beauty and a magical story that anyone can appreciate - and our members love the escape.Guests are likewise wowed by the glamour and historical significance of the club, plus the allure of being allowed inside a private club is part of its draw, too.

If you have been struggling with attendance at recent events or want to retain your normal number of attendees, the name recognition of a high-end private club might just do the trick. I always encourage planners to use selling points about the club to maximize interest among their potential audience.

One such selling point is our club’s facilities. At the Philadelphia Cricket Club, our 10,000-square feet of function space is highlighted by an elegant Grand Ballroom capable of hosting 300 people for a seated dinner or 450 for a cocktail reception.Smaller event spaces boast beautiful fireplaces, styl-

ish art and exquisite chandeliers. In addition, the clubhouse is surrounded by a golf course on one side and the Great Lawn and grass tennis courts on the other. No matter which space is chosen, guests will enjoy amazing views from every room in the club.

Another benefit of hosting an event at a private club is the high level of service offered. At the Philadelphia Cricket Club,we cater to many groups and individuals who expect only the highest level of personalized service, and we serve them with urgency and class. We only hire and train polished staff who will represent the club in a positive manner that is consistent with our name and reputation. So event planners can be confi- dent that when planning an event at the Cricket Club, their guests will be serviced only by the best.

Likewise, the culinary experience at our venue matches the high level of service offered. At the Philadelphia Cricket Club, all of our dishes are made from scratch daily by the Executive Chef and Executive Pastry Chef, who are both graduates of the Culinary Institute of America. No mass-produced or frozen food is served here.Members wouldn’t stand for that and our guests won’t have to either.

While most private clubs offer the majority of their athletic and dining facilities only to members, many clubs do allow certain facilities to be booked by non-members for private events.
