CityCenter DC, a development of retail, restaurants, a boutique hotel and condos, is scheduled to open in phases this year close to several cultural attractions and the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
Formerly known as The Melrose Hotel, the hotel’s revamped presence in the stylish Georgetown district influenced the renamed Melrose Georgetown Hotel. “We wanted to update the hotel to appeal to today’s cosmopolitan trav- eler while keeping the historic tradition and unique qualities of Washington, DC,” noted general manager, Joe Dantoni.
The once-traditional interiors now have a nouveau color palette and a muse- um-worthy art collection that couples classic photographs with stylized prints and chromatic artwork. Its 240 guest rooms have been filled with contempo- rary artwork and clean-lined furnishings. Large windows overlook the historic town. Full built-in plug-and-play work- stations and ample lighting have been incorporated to cater to the needs of the business traveler, while plush bed- ding and pillow-top mattresses promise a restful night.
In November 2012, the hotel revealed its new farm-to-fork Jardenea restau- rant, which offers a seasonally driven menu that is focused on using as many locally- and regionally-sourced ingredi- ents as possible. Heading Jardenea is Executive Chef Nate Lindsay, a young chef who has moved quickly through the ranks since making his culinary debut. Communal table options and fresh herb centerpieces evoke the feel of family dinners, while a wall display of vintage plates and painted chandeliers on suspended glass panels provide a dimension of privacy and suggest an elegant capriciousness that is charac- teristic of the new restaurant’s innova- tive delivery.
